They're everywhere, not just crypto. The difference is that in traditional markets it can be against the law. There's no such thing with crypto. Perhaps there will some day as it's outrageously blatant.
There could be laws against market manipulations but when traders doing it in group they are not getting noticed and still getting their benefits of pumps and dumps.

@OP
Pumps and dumps are nothing but manipulating market prices as per one's wish. It is possible with a trading asset when it is not having enough volume. Almost all cryptos are currently vulnerable to get pumped and dumped as there are whales to do so. But when cryptos grow with more userbase who will be adopting, these whales will lose their power then crypto will become secured from manipulations.
Pump and Dump are the two basic things you need to know when it comes to market price. Pump means if the coin value gets high while dump means if the coin value gets low. With these two words, you'll know when to buy and sell coins. Buy when the coin value is at dump and sell when the coin value is at pump.

If you want to feel it? I can tell you a low cap coin to buy and dump on your head. Smiley

Haha, have not all of us been there at one point or another. Seriously though, if this guy is new you shouldn't try and take advantage of that, regardless of how much is at stake.

hi all.,

i am not a day trader , so i dont know much about these terms.,

there was trollbox on polo where people used to say pump and dump specific coins. but trollbox is gone now.,

from basic understanding dump means DROP,
does the PUMP means buy ?

Pump means there would be a significant price increase on a certain coin and yes you would actually buy on that matter to make profits later on but just a suggestion dont always believe on the stuffs that are being said specially on trollbox because most people there do actually promote their own coin to be pumped so that you would able to buy it but sadly you end up on losing money because once you buy thats the time they will sell out.

Pump means that whales make you rich.

Dump means that whales steal your capital.

Remember both are extremely dangerous for you.

As far as I know, Dump mean the price downs and Bump means the price goes up. People should say that when they see signal from the markets.

Just like what it happens in a real life situation, when you are doing a pump you are putting a pressure that results into the rise of a certain object. That is also what really happen in the market industry. Price values of various types of cryptocurrency undergoes a certain process of pumping and dumping which normally happens with the sudden exchanges of price value in the market. Also in cryptotrading. The rise of the btc value for buying a certain altcoin is an indication that it is now time to sell some assets you are holding for trading.

Indeed we actually have some time to look for profits in one place and also some time to find other views outside the venue. For every time of life definitely has some changes which we should want to follow those changes. BTC and cryptocurrency is the very thing that has an attachment, if you want to get a lot of advantage then must know and use both of these. But the science of trading you must have for the dump and pump that is discussed in this thread is very dangerous. As the above said, the agan so fix your way of thinking

Yes that could be true. Pump if the coin that you are holding is seeing is getting increase its value in the market you will see a  arrow that is color green and going up and when it dump you will see the price is going down and the arrow is red that is going down.

Pump is the stage where we will see dramatic rise of price of a coin which is made artificially(manipulated)  by users who will then try to profit. They start buying those coins in huge amount causing the price to increase dramatically. They start creating a fuzz about the coin and other users starts joining the hype train which in turn causes the price to rise more. Then comes the dumping stage where the main players starts to sell their coins thus the price goings down. Other users also panics and ends up selling their coins which results in further crash.

Simple, pumping means the price or value of the coin is increasing while dumping means the value of the coin is decreasing. That applies both, either long term or short term in trading. I think that's the simplest explanation so not to confuse newbies in trading.

A big NO, Pump means the price will going up ,Dump means the price was dump or in other words it down . Don't buy when the price was too high or being pump then, have a patience when the price was dump.

Yes this means pump the price will increase its value in the exchange. So you must buy when dump happen and wait for pump. Actually before you enter in trading just learn this terms pump and dump.

In my own understanding and also according to what I have learned, pump and dump is what they meant for the price of each token in the market rise from the initial spot to the highest limit it would reach, while dumps or dumping is the opposite or below the initial price.

yes that is right when the price of bitcoin start increasing from where it is trading for some time as stable we call it as pumping position, and if the price of bitcoin start decreasing from that potion where it was trading then it is called as dumping potion. i think these are the common world use for the increase and decrease of the price of bitcoin.

That's basic same as buy low and sell at high price , Pump is not only means a price to up but it have some like pump due to hype or it is pump because of a update or new launch that happens to a coin to have a hype price. Dump sometimes a coin dumps hard if a coin is like a scam coin which created and added in a exchanges for the creator of the coin to earn from us sadly but its true , every single word have many means that's why experience is a must.

These are very common terms in the crypto market. I guess almost every person related to the cryptocurrency know very well about these two terms and the affect they have on their holdings, trading and savings. The traders when buying the coins like to hear the term dump and while selling the coins love to hear the term pump Wink so that they can get the best from trading.

So many wrong answers and such an easy way to get better info. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pump_and_dump

Quote
"Pump and dump" (P&D) is a form of microcap stock fraud that involves artificially inflating the price of an owned stock through false and misleading positive statements, in order to sell the cheaply purchased stock at a higher price. Once the operators of the scheme "dump" sell their overvalued shares, the price falls and investors lose their money. Stocks that are the subject of pump and dump schemes are sometimes called "chop stocks".[1]

While fraudsters in the past relied on cold calls, the Internet now offers a cheaper and easier way of reaching large numbers of potential investors.[1]

Yes.

The "pump" is not the increase in price. The pump is the promoting that causes victims to buy, which causes the price to rise. The scammer buys before the pump so that they can get the maximum profit when they sell.

The "dump" is not the fall in price. The scammer dumps the shares at inflated prices to the victims that buy as a result of the pump. The fall in prices happens after the dump when there are no more buyers to support the inflated price.

A "pump group" is a scam. Here is how it works:

1. The scammer creates a "pump group" convincing each member that they are on the inside and that they will profit.
2. The scammer selects a coin and buys it doing their best to pay the lowest price possible.
3. The pump. The scammer announces the time and date when members are supposed to buy.
4. Smarter members buy early, the rest buy at or after the announced time and date.
5. The price starts rising and members and others start buying.
6. The dump. The scammer starts selling as the price rises.
7. The buyers dry up and the price falls.
8. The scammer and some members make money, but everyone else loses.

The pump group scam works because of the belief that the pump is the rise in prices and the dump is the fall in prices.

Finally, this is not all theoretical. I know a guy that does this now, and some old-timers might remember Fontas, who was (and probably still is) a master of pump-and-dump.
You indeed have very well explained pumps and dumps. But what I want to add is Pump and dumps are not termed as scam in a Decentralised market as cryptocurrency market where there is no rules and regulations. It might be unethical on a human level but not scam. Nobody can really questions those admins of pump and dumps group sadly. Traders themselves need to be bit cautious while trading.

Of course most of these pump and dump groups can be considered scams since they'll use the foolishness of the many that participate to earn money for themselves. Most of then always buy before announcing and sell before announcing it. The way they do it can definitely be labeled as a scam.

It is manipulation, and with some market's you can manipulate with 1000 dollars and for some you need a fortune. Pumps and dumps are economy terms and they exist for a long time, much before crypto currencies. Alts, stocks, or anything else that have low value is submissive to manipulation.
With buying and selling some coin they are creating a fake demand, but pay attention they have a lot of coins stashed. When they pump the price enough they start the dump, selling all the coins from their stash, dumping them to others that are late and they get out from the game, and coin without this pump group, that made this fake trading volume, will go down to zero.

Life is the name of a persistent change where you can never bring a moment again to the same place once it is over then it’s over, however you can make the current and future more pleasant by proper planning and if things works on accordingly. I will simply say both the two words pump and dump are the beauty of the crypto financial system. These are what from where we are getting the benefits and the crunch of life.

Yeah this is a very good definition precise and easy to understand by any of the person. Especially for the new comers who are not used to with the crypto market terminologies. I appreciate you explaining it in such an simple way. More precisely I will say price up is pump and price down is dump.

No the dump means the price is dropping down while the Pump means the price is going up,
Hope this helps and also if you are going to buy while the coin is pumping there is a possibility that you could lose your money,
Because we all know that if the coins price goes up the holders or owners would sell their coin.
