Anyone have recommendations for a PSU to use aside from bitmains apw3++ ? Looking for bang for buck / efficiency

Bought these, they're freaking sweet. More uses and better bang for buck than bitmain antminer apw3++ / other Power Supplies

Get a PSU that will supply 10% more power than needed in the Gold/Plat category, and then look at reviews. Don't skimp on a PSU tho. If you get a cheaper PSU to save $20 and it fries your 3k miner, did you really save any money??

If it were me id buy top notch.  If you have a $200 miner and if frys meh so be it.  These miners are gold right now and you should be supplying it with a proper psu, worth the extra money you will make it back quickly right now

HP DPS-1200 FBA server power supply with breakout board (kit manufactured by Gekkoscience) and PCI-E cables.

The kit manufacturer sidehack here at the forum has them for sale.

We get this question A LOT. Here's a guide we like to give people when suggesting a PSU for people who don't want to run the brand new APW3++ (which also supports 110v now):

  • Obviously, your PSU must have at least nine 6-pin PCIe connectors. Yes, the 8-pin (6+2) connectors work too.
  • Always plan to use 80% or less of the total available power when using a consumer-grade PSU. If you need 800W, then purchase a PSU capable of 1000W or higher.
  • Only use PSUs that have a single 12v rail. Mining devices require very high amperage and cheaper PSUs can't provide the full amount over all of their connections. PSUs with a single 12v rail can supply their full output through any of their 6-pin PCIe connectors.
  • Only use PSUs that have Gold or better efficiency ratings. Efficiency matters a lot in the long run unless you have free power.
  • Don't forget that consumer-grade PSUs do not "turn on" without jumping the right pins on the 24-pin ATX connector. Here's a quick how-to. I prefer to use a PSU tester instead for aesthetic reasons.
  • Always be aware of your circuit's maximum amperage as well as how many amps are being used on the circuit in total. Remember, Watts = Volts * Amps, so 800W / 110v =7.27a.

Normally, we'd recommend the EVGA SuperNova 1050 GS, but they're out of stock almost everywhere. The EVGA 210-GQ-1000-V1 is a good substitute though.

Some more detailed responses on this would be great as I'm wondering what PSU would suit best.

It seems most people are opting for the 1200-1600W bitmain PSU though the L3+ only uses 800W+ 10% at the wall? So 1000W would be plenty?

Or are the bitmain PSU's supposed to power 2 antminer L3+ at a time?

Responses pls?

This would do well: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16817139129

Get good quality PSU the cost is worth it and covers your butt in case of power surge usually.

Honestly, anything that is 80+ gold / platinum / titanium rated. I personally take that 80+ rating over brand.

Hello sirs. Just bumping the thread to ask the same question.

Is it the L3+ needs 8 connectors? The EVGA 1000 only got six VGA connectors. Im wondering if it is suited to the machine. Or Im just misunderstood it. Thank you.

L3+ need 9 connectors. I can highly recommend this PSU and the seller:

https://pl.aliexpress.com/store/product/BTC-LTC-DASH-miner-power-supply-200-240V-9-5A-MAX-OUTPUT-1600W-suitable-for-ANTMINRT/2856089_32809828964.html?spm=2114.12010608.0.0.69afe576tcITe2

Work well on all my 26th L3+ and seller is very solid (delivery around 7 days).

stick with bitmain psu they are not the best in market but efficiency (this save your kWh bucks) and stabilty is still best
i used delta 2600w hp 2850w but i don't know how bitmain find out the dead hasborad is had 29v instead 12v and did not replaced.
before i replace 6 under warranty but the first time they replied that PSU over voltages the hashbord after 90 days they replaced but said first and last will not replace again.
i dunno how the fck they found it

One PSU came DOA from Bitmain, im looking for an alternative.
RMA @BM will take 3 weeks or more i think.
Is there a legit shop for the L3+ - HP-breakout-board from gekkoscience ?
Parallelmining is in cali, that would take too long to ship compared to Bitmain.
Other option would be buying a normal psu and buy some more 6-pin connectors.
The 6-pin should fit into the 8-pin sockets, i think. Right ?  Huh
To get the psu running i would have to bridge two contacts on the 24-pin i think.

All in all very workaroundy danger-soundy  Grin

I recently ordered one of these dual 120V 2400W PSU's for my ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ build and have been very happy with it.

http://www.panto-tech.com/products/206-110v-260v-power-supply-2400W-for-miner.html

It has 18 PCI-E 6+2 connectors that I use for the GPU VGA power inputs. It runs quiet and very cool as long as you don't run it at more than 50% of the capacity. When you run it at more than that, the fans get progressively louder the more wattage you pull from it. Shipping via DHL direct from the manufacturer was very quick. Total cost through PayPal was $181 shipped and I got it in less than 4 days.

The same manufacturer also has the same PSU with only the 18 PCI-E connectors and it's about $30 less, so I think that may be a better option for a L3 since it only uses the 6-pin power inputs.

http://www.panto-tech.com/products/207-110v-220v-power-supply-2400W-for-miner.html

BBT did a review of the PSU and has run it through various tests in his recent live streams and it's held up well. We'll see how it holds up long term, but for $150 shipped it's a good deal and solves the problem of not having enough PCI-E connectors for larger builds.

Thanks for the hint.
Im a bit cautious with that PSU, Gigabyte is usually not a fan-manufacturer but rather a powersupply-manufaturer for PC-equipment.
So this device looks a bit "salvaged" and the way they cut the edges is looking self-made.
When i order in china, i might order one if they are really turning out safe.
Would be a shame to save money on the PSU which then toasts two miners for 5K.
But maybe im too careful ...
