Hi All - Newbie alert!
I have just ordered parts for my first GPU mining rig.
I have decided to either mine for litecoin or feathercoin as mining for bitcoin is just not worth it especially with all the ASICs coming out now.
Right now it seems immediate value for hashing power is much better when mining litecoin as opposed to feathercoin.
Is feathercoin worth mining from a long term perspective?

www.coinchoose.com gives a basic profitability in comparison to Bitcoin mining. There are so many coins out there, it is hard to keep up.

Feathercoin seems to have had a quick influx of miners, and the value has tanked on btc-e. Possible it will recover, but it's something of a gamble now.

Yes, I agree, its hard to know what to start mining with relatively limited mining power. Although terracoin looks to currently have the best profitability it is SHA-256 based, does this mean the current generation of ASIC will be able to mine for it?

As far as I know, all Bitcoin ASICs are capable of mining any SHA256 coin. I've never had the good graces of owning an ASIC, so I can't verify it.

So as I understand it, without the privilege of owning an ASIC miner (I have ordered as ASIC from BFL, but does not look like it will be arriving anytime soon), it would be better to stay away from SHA-256 based currencies at the moment?

If a SHA256 coin (such as Terracoin) is the most profitable to mine, then mine it. Don't worry, you'll get your BFL ASIC somewhere between now and the end of time.

Another option is to watch for new coins announcements in the forum, and mine them when difficulty is low. People who can catch these waves early seem to do quite well out of it.

Yes, I was thinking that. Quite risky if the new coin doesnt get off the ground. But potentially quite profitable if it does.
