I've posted 5 times and spent more than 4 hours on the forum, but I still cannot post on other forums.  Huh

The timer is in the upper left hand corner of the forum under "Hello [Username]". You can't just leave a browser open for four hours, you have to spend four hours actively browsing/posting on the forum.

My name was simply a play on "Blue Engineer" from Team Fortress. I am not affiliated with Microsoft or the Azure project.

yes, I think I understand that. The timer is above 4 hours already.

Total time logged in: 4 hours and 15 minutes.

Your status is changed. You should be able to post on other forums now.

Statuses don't change immediately after 4 hours, it seems that changes are done via a batch job that runs every X minutes (10? 15?).

From what I can tell, two points:

1. It lowers the amount of spam that hits the forums.

2. It forces people to read at least a little bit before being released into the main forums. As most newbie questions have already been answered 10x over (if not more) it lowers the number of repeat questions on the site.

While you may find the 4 hour / 5 post requirement to be annoying it will make the remainder of the time you spend on the forum a more pleasant experience overall.

It's a good restriction, but kind of frustrating for new users

Oh yeah...but worth it if it keeps out even one spammer.

It's a fair policy. I kind of wish all forums would do it.
