Ah sorry, misread the quoted May 4 date. I was thinking of simply reserving say 50% of the coins on an order at about 100% of the price bought and forgetting it for the entire duration. It is an extra step but would possibly take advantage of spikes in altseason, not uncommon as has happened at least twice to some of my "for fun alts". But yeah, leaving funds on the exchange is always an unacceptable risk if you're looking at the same 10-month period. I wouldn't go after you if anything happened to the wallet/exchange, though I suspect others might not be as nonchalant. Still looking forward to joining all the same.

The first half of last year was the opposite: anybody who created a shitcoin got rich!

While some have labeled such events as scams in the past, I think it displays the potential pitfalls of spending your BTC on an investment well.

It's more or less a gamble, and all the more reason to limit the amounts "invested". All it takes is just one altcoin that hits 10x to 100x, and this experiment is in profit no matter what the rest does. Stellar Lumens for instance went from 281 sat on October 4, to 3911 sat now. That's 13.9 times more.
It's increases like this that keep me (and probably most people) going on altcoins.

I hope everyone involved had a positive experience and enjoy their newly acquired USD profits.

Bitcoin's market dominance dropped from 49.13% on October 4 last year to 43.04% now. But even though altcoins are gaining market share, the total number of altcoins keeps going up, reducing their individual market shares.

Very interesting results. Shame it didn't go so well for you guys. I started my own one, investing in 18 coins I picked last August for one year. Its gone pretty well, will probably not cash them out but let them run for another year (maybe will change some of them, not sure yet) but very interesting experiment. Obviously nowhere near as good now as it was back in December but still about 3x overall.

Yesterday, many alts on CoinMarketCap went up 900%. For a short moment I was very hopeful for this experiment, but it was just a glitch in the website.
In the past month, Bitcoin's market dominance went up again, eating altcoins:

Bitcoin's dominance is now only slighly higher than it was when this experiment started, but new altcoins continuously dilute the share of existing altcoins.

Measured in dollars, we're at a 12.2% loss. Measured in Bitcoin, the loss is 4 times larger.
It doesn't feel right to sell it now, but I want to stick to the plan you all agreed to 10 months ago. So there it goes:

In hindsight, we should have started in Month 1 and ended in Month 3. But that's in hindsight. It was a roller coaster, and I'm really sorry I didn't get you guys a profit. That doesn't stop people from joining round 2 though, so I assume the "consider it play money"-warning was well understood.

Bittrex scared me after confirming my withdrawal: it went from "Authorized" to "Invalid". That's a weird way of telling me they don't accept Bech32 addresses. After this, it worked with a legacy address.
Bittrex takes 0.0005BTC fee, I can further distribute the funds with 1 sat/byte. That leaves 0.00509935BTC per person. Paid back with txid 6d0e1a76b48c1558f376bf5dff996ea6376c525378a14067955498a6672f4ebd.

Received funds to my "after 10 months" wallet. It was an enjoyable experiment LoyceV and I got excited to see the table each 4th day of the month. We didnt do great no but we found out 2018 hasn't been so hot for alt coins. Could be more promising to start round 2 immediately lol. Thanks again!

Hello LoyceV! I must admit I forgot all about Aug 4th, but I just noticed now the 0.005+ BTC or so to my wallet came and I instantly knew where it came from. Like billgator said, positive experience to be gained. I'm sure we all knew the risk of alts, and personally am prepared to lose everything in an experiment. As OgNasty says too, we generally know what to expect with USD gains and BTC losses. Just a shame about the timing. But we're all free to go on and buy our chosen alts and hold on to those anyway (which is probably what I'll do, beef up a few more PPC

I'm sure we all knew the risk of alts, and personally am prepared to lose everything in an experiment. As OgNasty says too, we generally know what to expect with USD gains and BTC losses.

I've always said altcoins (and later ICOs and Forkcoins) were only created to give the creator more Bitcoins. Long term that still seems to be true.
Around the start of 2017, on the other hand, many altcoins went up 10x to 100x. I also think that was a one-time thing.

Just a shame about the timing. But we're all free to go on and buy our chosen alts and hold on to those anyway (which is probably what I'll do, beef up a few more PPC

I hadn't thought of that yet. It sounds like a good idea, although I'm still holding enough GBYTE (which continues dropping until now).

I like the idea of an investment cooperative. I think I'm a bit concerned about the fixed term for the investment. Crypto is so volatile, that I think one needs to maintain flexiblity to take advantage of market movements. I'd also like to be able to choose between different risk:reward ratios, and this is not possible with a single portfolio.
