There's a guy who has a bunch of different types of coins for sale, most of which I've never heard of: ChinaCoin, PpCoins, YaCoin, BBQCoin and BTE.  Any opinion of these?

PPC perspective currency, due to its mass, low cost, and ease the purse.

I think that only PPC (aka peercoin) and YAC are worth watching them. Both are innovative to the previous altcoins, YAC is the first altcoin with scrypt-jane algo (GPU resistant at the moment, CPU only mining).

Chinacoin is pump&dump made on chinese subforum first.
BBQ was made rather for fun but then gain some popularity.
BTE is 1:1 copy of bitcoin, nothing innovative

Thanks for the input.  I only buy coins - I don't do any mining.  I believe in BTC more then any of the cryptocurrencies at this point, but I thought it would be good to have a small presence in the other ones just in case they take off.

Pump and dump. Period.

I'm afraid I'd have to watch it too closely, and I lack the skill/experience to successfully pump and dump.

BBQcoin is one of the coins that hummed along a year or so at low difficulty so anyone could have a fair chance to get some even if they didn't have any GPUs. There are some still humming along like that so people without huge mining farms still have various coins they can pick up easy at the moment, and they should do so really if only so that there won't be complaints of unfairness later.

People who miss the boat even when they eyes-open missed it themselves on purpose by deliberately not taking an opportunity still tend to complain later so lets make sure everyone knows they still can mine easily lots of coins of various kinds still while their difficulties are still low.
