I find mining fucking tedious, I'd much rather sell stuff for Bitcoins and have fun on my computer and be known for that rather than talk about how many hashes I'm doing all day Tongue I think miners are becoming the new financial traders sometimes. If I were rich, I wouldn't let something like the blockchain show exactly how many Bitcoins I have and I'd transfer my stuff if I ever needed to in small amounts so it wouldn't be so easy to notice.

Wouldn't be surprised if Satoshi himself owns the largest bitcoin block. Anyone smart enough to create this revolutionary currency model would certainly be prescient enough to acquire the most bitcoins at the earliest stages and just allow time and the bitcoin model adoption to evolve and work for him. Would be interesting to track any sub-transactions related to that largest bitcoin block to see where bitcoins have been spent.

The earliest blocks would all be the same size:  50 BTC.

As for the ones after the genesis block, it's easy enough to see where they went (or didn't go) on the blockchain.

I really wonder how rich some of the earliest miners got. I myself got into the game pretty early and my winnings most likely pale in comparison.

I read about Bitcoin last year and I'm kicking myself not looking into it back then. I still bought my first bitcoin in January when the price was 14 euro's. Hope it's not too late for a nice bit of accumulation and I'll try to get some more even though I don't have much money. That first bitcoin is resting in a paper wallet at a secure location. So I will always still have some.

Prices are still cheap now. In 5 years, it will be 1,000+

I think Satoshi still has like 10%, I could be wrong though.

Satoshi *is* Bitcoin, owns roughly $100m-worth of BTC. (Which, we would submit, he fully deserves. BTC is a brilliant, brilliant concept and now a $1.4Bn economy. Zuck owns far more than 10% of FB, for example - and that's not in the same ballpark for world-changing ingenuity. There will be Economics PhDs about Bitcoin.)

Talking of FB, the Winklevii have approx $12m-worth of BTC, mainly bought when prices were in low double-figures. Smart kids.
