Can someone post a CGMiner capable of polling at a time step <<1 second? Would that not make everyone defeat orphanvilles (or just make them go by in about a minute instead of a few hours)?

Um, no? Everyone would have it, and be using it...It would do nothing for the orphan rate. An orphan is a block, that multiple people found at the same time. First one to report back with it, wins. Difficulty is so low right now, that blocks are being solved like crazy

Yes, but the entire process would sort itself out n times faster where poll time is 1/n. Let's say everyone can reliably poll at 100ms instead of 1s, and latency is <<100ms, then blocks would be solved correctly on the network ~10x faster, and the orphan situation would be under control 10x sooner. The same number of orphans would be created, but it'd all be over in minutes. Alt-coins now exist and are done in one day, so I see no reason we shouldn't make that 2 hours by a simple code update. Basically we could get 10 new coins a day instead of 1  Cheesy

Sure would like this, with my shitty 5770 i "found" up to 5 orphans before the client detected a new block. Same with Franko yesterday, but not as extreme.
