So right after the mining boom I decided to build a beast rig. I bought 6 1080ti and had nothing but problems. The rig would not run all 6 cards. I had to split the ti's between the 2 miners. I'm using powered boards and 1700w psu's.
I still can't get a strong OC on either rig. One has 2 1080 ti, 2 1080, and 2 1070. The PSU is a Lepa Maxplatinum 1700w and the mobo is a H81 pro btc. The molex pins are plugged and the board is powered.
The second rig has 4 1080 ti and 2x gtx 1070, TB250-BTC Pro board and Lepa Maxplatinum 1700w. The molex are plugged in to power the PCIE slots but the SATA power for the USB is not.
The OC is kind of pathetic, +129 core and +504 mem is the max stable I can get. Would the problem more likely be not enough power at the PCIE or maybe the PSU just isn't good enough? If it's the boards then there's nothing I can do, but if it's the PSU I could sell these and get 4x 1000w and run 2x per rig. That would lead to some annoyances and some downtime, any ideas?

I hope you've solved this.
From what I read, your need more PSUs... save around ~ 150W for the mono thing, and the rest to GPU.

bears in mind that a 1080 at 90% tdp or even at 80% have a peak of consumption that is higher than 250, it touch 275 watt in some case, that is 1650, then you need to add all other components, so you are not going to be in with that psu, i recommend a 2k psu

Thanks, moving the 1700w psu to ASICs and getting 2x 1000w per rig. |

So I bought some Lepa 1000w gold PSU. On my 4x 1080ti and 2x 1070 I hooked one of the 1000w PSU to a 1080 ti and both 1070. I used add2psu. It started up no problem, but when I OC I was barely able to squeeze anything extra out. I wonder if the used 1700w PSUs aren't going bad? I've never tested a PSU, anyone knows how?

Miner has been crashing a lot now, it's very unstable. I was sure adding another PSU might help.
I'm getting three BSOD errors, mostly 0x00000119, sometimes 0x00000133 and sometimes 0x00000116.
I have no clue why this system is so unstable. Next, I'll just try and change all the risers.

I got a similar problem with mine.
I got one rig of ti's (5 cards), it's running sort of ok, 740ish on zec, but one card declines to 600 after 30 minutes, ALWAYS.
If I try to overclock - the rig dies and needs to be reset. 1500w psu.
The other rig (asus ti's), simply cant run 5 cards with 1500w psu, I burned through 5 MB's while trying to get it to work.
Simply cant. I think I'll need at least 1600w psu, but that is strange since HQ platinum/titanium PSUs can draw up to 20% more power,
at least for a short time. Maybe something else is my problem, but I tried different risers, procs, etc...

Your OC is not uncommon. It depends on a variety of things, one of them being the silicon lottery and the base clock for example. It's not the PSU's fault probably.

Keep in mind- Just because one user can overclock -doesn't mean you'd get the same OC out of your card.
Sometimes you hit the lotto and get great OC but sometimes- it could be so horrible that even +100 would cause nothing but issues. Try running all of them on stock clocks- if no issues arise then start -with very little OC , maybe +25 and so on.

This is very correct. I have had bunch of AMD gpus and initially I was expecting each to receive same level of overclock capabilities. Later I recognized that I needed to modify them individually in order to get them working without crashes. At summer time, another modification was needed, because an aggressive overclock caused too much heat and troubled everyone at home even though we use air conditioner. |

Today I'm moving them back into my office. I'll be hotter but they'll be cooler. It's been bad since I put them in the pantry. I had a fan sucking air out of the room through the little window but it died. I have a large fan blowing over the GPU but that room is becoming an oven.
I'm also going to hook the GPU one by one and test 5 different preset OC. Checking OC stability and risers. Going to find the weak link and decide what to do from there. Maybe throw a 1k watt PSU in my personal PC and use the 1080ti to play Ark.
