One of the most important feature of cryptocurrencies is privacy, if done right it's very hard to find the person behind an address, which sadly attracts criminals to crypto. Now, bet fraud is when a person who can directly influence the outcome of some event bets on it, and the privacy features of cryptocurrencies are making it easier. A sportsman can place a huge bet against himself and than just throw the match and take a huge amount of money, and it would be impossible to spot this because betting was done anonymously via cryptocurrencies. Sometimes it's easy to spot that the player is intentionally throwing, in other cases it's almost impossible to tell, also huge bets on weak picks might raise suspicions, but if done right, it might be very hard to spot the fraud.

Do you know any stories about bet frauds committed with cryptocurrencies?

Is there any way to prevent or investigate it?

I haven't still encountered on this kind of frauds since if I do saw some big bets on weak picks and I do normally treat it as an usual thing on this betting world. Whats the point of their throwing? No one would able to place big bets if they aren't sure but yet its gambling that's why we do risk money and the amount we do like. This is the beauty of bitcoin which we can able to place bets without being traced and hide your identity anonymously.

i am not yet heard any bet frauds committed with cryptocurrencies although i am sure that in out there, maybe there is people or a group that doing this because we don't know what people reason for making transaction. and since making transaction in cryptocurrencies is anonymous, we still can not track where is the address destination. i think i don't know how to prevent this because once the transaction is made, then it will arrive in the destination wallet but maybe there is a way to prevent.

Fraudulent activities were not found with the gambling websites. In my opinion, majority of the gambling websites are trustworthy compared to the investment opportunity available through different websites. Some websites have gone bankrupt just because of the unsuccessful management and technical development. Based on this fraud in betting with cryptocurrencies never happens.

I think there are also authorities in the web where they are really looing if certain site is good or the content is too risky. But offcourse not all are being caught. But in terms of those gambling sites i think thay is just a basic concept that some are really manipulated by the creators. So it is always in the user to have those risks especially if a user is a high staker that could attract other gamblers.

If you avoid the small new casinos I don't think you have to be very scared of fraud. The big casinos have a reputation to maintain that they would likely not sacrifice for a few extra coins. They make way more from maintaining their business.

Correct, big casinos wont really ruin their reputation on just a small penny. They would rather choose to be fair to sustain their site which is what should be done on most of them. Being fair of their service would really be more advisable so that players would really not make any suspicion later on when they saw unusual bets on the site.

It's about the possibility for people who can influence the outcome of a game to fraud it. For example, when player A meet player B in tennis game. Player A bet against himself with cryptocurrency and he makes himself lose the game. The possibility for this fraud is higher now since the emerge of cryptocurrencies. I bet it already happened but we and most people didn't notice it yet.

Bookmakers aren't necessarily a part of this fraud, it's actually in their best interest to bust it. And this thread is about bookmakers, not casinos and their bankrolls.

Seems like you too not quite getting what I'm talking about, here's one of the most famous examples of bet fraud in esports - https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/36zzmh/what_does_322_in_esports_mean/

This is normal happens in Fiat also, there is nothing new in it, linking it with cyrupto is not nice, yes your concerns are valid that it could happen and yes you can't trace a account holder but I don't feel it's right to point fingers at crypto. So far I have not heard any cytpto fraud happening, and let's say it was happening it would be very difficult to find it, there is no paper trail and it's best left alone, cause there is no way to find this, I mean there is no technology for this.

I don't know any stories about bet fraud with cryptocurrencies because most reports that I read about match fixing is that they don't share much detail about the issue. It's always between the player and the guy who will pay the player to throw. One way to prevent this is to have a smaller limit on smaller leagues where there's a higher chance of match fixing that could happen.

This problem with match fixing does not only involve crypto-currency betting, even with fiat money, the player in the team could still throw away the game by playing terribly and won a huge bet amount on the match because of his actions, he just need to ask someone he trusted to make the bet for him in fiat money, and he could still remain unknown behind those huge bets.

I think this type of fraud is found in this world, but It's hard to find it, because the player decide to do that in top security for his life like a pro player, also maybe it found only in low devisions, I mean games which they not be live on T.V or maybe on radio.
This Manipulation of results can be found in unkown ligues and sometimes mafia can manipulate the results with the force of arms or killing.

There's a particular type of "match fixing" fraud I've seen from reading the Trust section of users in the gambling thread (one level up from here). Also have suspected it myself a couple of times. Basically it involves multiplayer poker. It's not exactly match fixing, but if you even have two players colluding at a table with 10, you're making it extremely difficult for the other 8 to win. It's especially profitable when there are more than 1 top prizes for single game.

Match fixing is not new at all, it has been done since before there was any crypto currency and i can bet that lots of people have done that and thrown the match without being caught, It all depends on how the person plays the game, a person can feign injury just to throw the match and no one can suspect it at all. Sometimes the two players can collude together and take a bigger payout.

The top flight sportsmen are too wealthy anyways and don't need to take part in any fixed matches me thinks. There might be something going on in the lower leagues and the amateur level where the salaries are low enough so that players might be willing to do something on the side to earn some extra cash. It's definitely plausible but very hard or nearly impossible to prove.

Seems you are taking too foolish about the sports persons. There are many league matches are fixed already playing for it. Many of the people involves in fixing are taking away from the game itself completely.
Even in single person games are also fixing use to done like rafel nadal and roger federer matching loosing in finals with the cheap players and olympic fixing and drug using and many thing.

Sport is popular more then ever, big money circulate in sport and betting on sport attract a lot of people nowadays. Fixing matches and games in sports are nothing new, I'm not sure what crypto currencies have with that. People who fixh matches can pay with money, gold, other goods and now with crypto coins, and I'm sure that some of them use crypto for that.
To prevent or stop this is very hard, its hard to prove that something illegal happened at all. Do you know that a player can miss penalty? Did he do that on purpose or accidentally? How to prove that someone gave him money for that if no one saw it? With using cryptocurrenies they can hide thir transactions even more, you will never know what happened.

The problem with this is that most sportsbookies that accept bitcoin accept only the major games and leagues, and have max. bet or max. wins.

Players playing these matches in major leagues often earn a lot more than they'll be able to win by forfeiting the game when they place a bet.
Would it be worth it for them?

There's a particular type of "match fixing" fraud I've seen from reading the Trust section of users in the gambling thread (one level up from here). Also have suspected it myself a couple of times. Basically it involves multiplayer poker. It's not exactly match fixing, but if you even have two players colluding at a table with 10, you're making it extremely difficult for the other 8 to win. It's especially profitable when there are more than 1 top prizes for single game.

This is about different, because only the players are involved, but still a very interesting subject. Can you link to some of those profiles? Any idea how did they get exposed?

Sport is popular more then ever, big money circulate in sport and betting on sport attract a lot of people nowadays. Fixing matches and games in sports are nothing new, I'm not sure what crypto currencies have with that. People who fixh matches can pay with money, gold, other goods and now with crypto coins, and I'm sure that some of them use crypto for that.

If a player wants to commit this fraud in fiat systems, he most likely needs to collude with the operator, because it's very hard to hide his identity. But with crypto it's almost impossible to find the person behind the address, which makes this type of fraud much more easier.

That's a good point, and I guess this means that low tier events can be considered as less safe to bet. Right?
