The thing is. If you going to cheat at live sport and match fix you going to have to know about it and have players agree. Many people will know and have to be apart of it and that is much harder to do then having one person control a casino and cheating. Also match fixing you under time restrain.

Its still possible. But I really doubt it happens much.

The problem with this is that most sportsbookies that accept bitcoin accept only the major games and leagues, and have max. bet or max. wins.

Players playing these matches in major leagues often earn a lot more than they'll be able to win by forfeiting the game when they place a bet.
Would it be worth it for them?
It wouldn't be. It's possible for them to earn a lot on a fix just that one time, but it's very risky. The only situation that would make it worth trying is if the fixers were to retire after that match anyway due to health condition or they knew the club is not going to renew their contract.

One of the most important feature of cryptocurrencies is privacy, if done right it's very hard to find the person behind an address, which sadly attracts criminals to crypto. Now, bet fraud is when a person who can directly influence the outcome of some event bets on it, and the privacy features of cryptocurrencies are making it easier. A sportsman can place a huge bet against himself and than just throw the match and take a huge amount of money, and it would be impossible to spot this because betting was done anonymously via cryptocurrencies. Sometimes it's easy to spot that the player is intentionally throwing, in other cases it's almost impossible to tell, also huge bets on weak picks might raise suspicions, but if done right, it might be very hard to spot the fraud.

Do you know any stories about bet frauds committed with cryptocurrencies?

Is there any way to prevent or investigate it?

The scenario you have painted is quite real but the reason why its not obvious is because of the difficulty in proving such exist which might even be much more difficult in the case of crypto-currency. Although, I also have not seen something like that but I know its possible and most times the participants had known before hand who will lose and who will win because of the direction a lot of people are betting towards. This is something I feel is rampant in boxing and that's why I don't bother bet on them any longer because I see the match as a replay of what has been practised.

I haven't encounter any of that problem yet and I think in sports there are things that just happens,
Maybe we could call it a miracle or just a luck but I think there are some matches that could be cheated in scoring,
It is just pretty hard to guess if the match was a set up.

Sport is popular more then ever, big money circulate in sport and betting on sport attract a lot of people nowadays. Fixing matches and games in sports are nothing new, I'm not sure what crypto currencies have with that. People who fixh matches can pay with money, gold, other goods and now with crypto coins, and I'm sure that some of them use crypto for that.
To prevent or stop this is very hard, its hard to prove that something illegal happened at all. Do you know that a player can miss penalty? Did he do that on purpose or accidentally? How to prove that someone gave him money for that if no one saw it? With using cryptocurrenies they can hide thir transactions even more, you will never know what happened.

Before this crypto currency players used to take the black money and they will hide that money in a Swiss bank somewhere else. But now this digital currency made them take money easily without knowing anyone. And we can not identify that the player is booked or not. Becasue while playing match anything can happen a class player will fail sometimes we can not say he/she did match fixing. Only the bookies will know who is booked in that particular match

If you are used to online gambling sites then you should have noticed that there is a limit on the maximum amount of coins to be placed for every sporting event and since there is a limit these kind of activities is very hard to proceed, may be there might be fixed matches but that wont be happening with online gambling sites but with big gambling casinos.

You know, one player sports exist too
Also, if you're a goalkeeper in football, it's fairly easy for you frame the match

Well, I don't think bitcoin bookies offer things like the Turkish league or 2nd German league
Which are actually good leagues
However, the French,English etc. leagues offer a better reward than betting for example 10BTC and framing the match
I'm completely unsure what the max.bets are so I'm in no position to argue for this

Looking for a signature campaign.

Getting cheat will always show up in our mind when we lose, no matter you lose while playing casino, sports betting, etc we will have a thoughts like that. Like you said there is a match-fixing, actually we can never know it. The only way is if you have such thoughts then it is easy, stop gambling than it will make you more dizzy because you can not accept the loses.

I don't think it usually happened , the people who are the international players are not became a player and not directly playing the match without any hard work or talent , Actually they have the talent that how to handle the game perfect and honestly .
And at this level of the game they are making much earnings , then why they need to make gambling and make earnings own self .
And also there is no factor that any other person make bet at them by planing each other because. The management system of the international gambling trams are much hard and they never enter or to contact these players directly .
So here I don't think that we are discussing about a particular issue where to trace anyone is impossible , actually this thing can't happen .

People will do anything to amass wealth so this is no surprise to me at all, we hear of fixed matches especially in single sports games where there are consistent upsets especially in the off season and some team sports like soccer have also had its fair share of these match fixing especially in the Italian league.

Well, there's nothing more anonymous than cash!  There is no published ledger of cash transactions, there are no signatures required with cash, and cash is the currency of choice around the world....especially in the dark markets. So, if you can do it with cryptocurrency, then you can do it with cash.  I think the question here is more a matter of regulation....KYC/AML concerns at the sites which take the wagers....not really a cryptocurrency problem, rather, a KYC problem.

Well gambling has been going on for a long time and these fixed games didn't start today so I'm wondering why it's being linked to cryptocurrencies in the first place. If it was possible in fiat days why lower it to cryptocurrencies now? Us ur just to give the dog a bad name and hang it?

Exactly, I don't know why they lump it all on Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies but this has been ongoing even before they came into existence and fiats are surprisingly not blamed in this regard. It's just unfair.

People are just afraid of new things....there's a word for them, "luddites." They'll always find ways to blame the newest technologies for the problems surrounding their old technologies.  Some people still have them great big fat televisions because they're afraid of the new flat televisions....In fact, some people are still using bitcoin instead of ethereum, if you can believe it.

i am agree with you, there is still many people won't accepted newest technology and they close their eyes even we have a proof that this will help them. but i think we don't have to judge them because if they realize, they will follow us someday.

i think with cryptocurrencies, it helps us to pay something on internet while we want to buy something in online store. without crypto currencies we need to use credit card to buy and for me, its too dangerous because our data can be stolen. and this is why i am prefer to use cryptocurrencies to playing gambling so i don't have to use credit card to playing gambling.

Match fixing is not a new thing and it was there for long but recently it has become more and spread to almost all games. Earlier match fixing used to happen with cash but how they were managing funds not sure but now due to cryptocurrencies they can easily send money to anyone and it is not so easy to trace the transactions of these cryptocurrencies. So many people think that these crypto currencies are helping these match fixers. Without these crypto currencies also match fixing will happen but now handling money has become more easier.

No one said that this is a problem specific to cryptocurrencies. But cryptocurrencies are radically different from legacy financial systems, and we as users need to develop new practices that help to prevent and investigate scams. Otherwise our crypto economy will be plagued with scammers (look at the ICO market - tons of scams and almost no one gets caught). And of course I'm not suggesting that we change cryptocurrency protocol, instead we should create and develop new institutions that will help protect customers in decentralized fashion.  This is why I created this thread to hear about any ideas that can help to fight scams in this specific case - match fixing.

My friends do say that most bet frauds are done on poker sites, but stopping thus will be very hard because cryptocurrency are anonymous and it made it easy for them to get away without being known. One of the only way to stop this is to be doing KYC to every account. That's know you customers.

Match fixing is everywhere and almost in every sports in the world and most of the time those who fixes the matches do it by approaching lesser known players because they can't pay the world class players enough money to fix their games for them.
