Hello,

I have z97 gaming 7 mobo and it has 3 slots. Currently I am using 2 of them with 2 gpus with the middle slot is empty.
I am thinking of adding the third one but if i add it the gpus will be so close to each other . Will it be a big problem for temperature ? What is your idea about it ?

Thanks

If this is a dedicated mining rig, I would definitely move it out of the case and add the third card. I would also get PCIe risers to spread them out (for mining, a powered x1 to x16 riser will still work for your purposes, or you could just use a x16 to x16 riser).

I usually like to keep the core temperatures below 70C, but you can get away with running them hotter. I just try to avoid it since running the GPUs 24/7 is already pushing it. I'm using old 7700 and 7800 series cards, which don't usually run too hot anyways. I don't know what your cards are, but if they're very power-hungry cards, then keeping 3 in the case running 24/7 is probably a bad idea, even if your case has many fans.

I use a basic design with a file crate and zip ties. Some people have been more creative, using wood or aluminum to build a nice open-air frame, but I took the cheap route.

If moving the rig out of the case won't work for you, then try putting the case on its side and removing the side panel for better cooling, then see if your temperatures are okay.

better to no add it there without a risers, because having 3 gpu so close will make the one in the middle to catch fire, because with current summer will go to 80° from the time you start the rig, buy a risers and the one in the middle rise it a bit from the other

It will be a problem as one of your cards will run extremely hot. Z97 gaming 7 mobo has a few PCIEX1 to PCIEX16 slots which you can use with risers and can add up to 6 cards without problems. I have my mining boards in the open without any case, but I have a PC at home which I have opened completely the side of the case and I have running 4 Nvidia cards. You can try this too.
