So I made a transfer from coinbase to a paper wallet that I have. I checked to see if the transaction went through on blockchain.info and it says 0BTC.

Underneath something listed as Transactions it says:

"No transactions found for this address, it has probably not been used on the network yet."

I've never used this address on any online exchange. So how am I suppose to check to see how many are in my paper wallet? Did I just lose my money forever?!

Check on Coinbase to see if the transaction went through and if the site gives you any txid.

It says that it is pending, but I read online that the receiving end is suppose to show up in the wallet immediately.

It says that it is pending
Means coinbase didn't send the transaction yet.
No transaction means you won't be able to find anything using block explorers.
You'll have to wait for coinbase to work off their backlog.

You are mixing 0 confirmation with pending word. Coinbase is not a true bitcoin wallet so you have to wait till they manually process your withdrawal.

If you don't want to wait like this in future than just avoid using coinbase and use wallets like electrum from which you can send bitcoin yourself.

Like what they said. There is possibility that your transaction on coinbase has not come through. Sometime it takes a while when using coinbase withdrawal. I had a problem with them before that took me 2 days before they sent the transaction. And another problem that I had is that it also took 2 days to receive a transaction but there had been multiple confirmations already.

Oh my gosh! So much for speedy transactions. I'm hoping that this segwit thing will help speed it up, but who knows if it is enough.

What do you mean Coinbase is not a true bitcoin wallet? Why do they need to withdraw money?. I thought it was a bitcoin transfer, I'm not withdrawing anything.

Sorry guys for my noobness and tons of questions. I thought I understood Bitcoin better than I did. Apparently, I have much to learn.

It's not Bitcoin's fault, but Coinbase (the service) where the problem lies.
Want fast transactions? Use Core or Electrum and send them yourself.
Don't blame Bitcoin for Coinbase's incompetence.

Custodial Services
Although often called Bitcoin wallets, services like Coinbase and Circle aren’t true Bitcoin wallets. Customers private keys are held by these third party services, meaning users don’t really have control of their money. As Bitcoiners often say: “if you don’t control the keys, you don’t control the coins”. Mt. Gox is an extreme example, but one that illustrates the importance of holding private keys. Gox was the first and largest Bitcoin exchange up until 2013. Thousands of users stored more than 800,000 bitcoins in their Gox accounts.

At the time, one may have claimed to have 1,000 bitcoins in a Gox account. While true at the time, as soon as Mt. Gox claimed to have been victim of theft users with bitcoins in their accounts were left empty handed. Services like Coinbase and Circle may in fact use good security practices and there’s a chance your bitcoins are safe. But by storing bitcoins with a third party you are always taking on additional risk.

Oh okay, that makes more sense. I was transferring my money from the exchange to my personal paper wallets and read online that transactions are instant. When I saw it wasn't listed on blockchain.info I was slightly worried that my money was lost into cyber space. I just recently checked and my first transaction is shown in the wallet. I'm still waiting on the other two, but I feel much better about them going through.

Thank you for the information on holding private keys. That is certainly helpful. I will feel much relief once all of my transacted bitcoins are safely stored away in the place where I want them.

If my understanding is correct, I have to wait for coinbase to sift through their money orders and make the transfer themselves which is then instantly received once they get around to it. After which, I wait 10 to 30 minutes for it to go through on the bitcoin network.

Really relieved right now, phew.

That was my old experience in coinbase that is why i switch in electrum wallet which is i have control with my wallet i can backup private keys. in case i can recover it in other wallet once the walle of electrum will crash but its impossible because i never experience it and this is the best alternative wallet of bitcoin core wallet..

The only thing that you must do is to contact the coinbase support you can try this twitter support from coinbase https://twitter.com/coinbasesupport?lang=en
And hope that they can responds to your concern so that the problem about your transaction can be solve after fixing it from coinbase..

Make crypto as your bank.

Your money is still with coinbase. Though your coinbase account shows the money deducted from your account, it will not show in the blockchain or in your wallet where you transferred unless coinbase sends them manually, as they are not a wallet on true sense.

Yep.  Bitcoin transactions are instant, but when you have your coins in Coinbase, they are holding and spending them for you.  It's like a bank in that you put in money based on the promise that you can get it out again when you want.

The vast majority of Bitcoin wallets give you control over your private keys, but a few online wallets don't (and no exchanges do, as far as I know).  You should check Bitcoin.org's guide to different types of wallets, if you ever need a more convenient way to send than your paper wallet.
Oh my gosh! So much for speedy transactions. I'm hoping that this segwit thing will help speed it up, but who knows if it is enough.
SegWit's aim is to increase the capacity of the network so that you get quicker confirmations.  Sending itself is still instant.

Just go to https://blockchain.info/ this site and put your Coinbase Address on the search bar and click Enter. Now you can see your total transaction history of this address.

Sorry to hear that your transaction is missing. It's the first time I am hearing such an issue with coinbase. Even I use coinbase wallet. I haven't encountered such a problem with coinbase. Just wait for 3 more days and see . Still you didnt find coins in your paper wallet  try to contact there support and tell them your problem. They may find a solution for this.

What a horrible exchange. They represent everything that bitcoin isn't about or supposed to be.

A bitcoin withdrawal which takes days. A third world company operating in a first world country.
