Hey guys, do you ever look back at really old bitcoin transactions you made and see how much they are worth in today's value? Sometimes I like doing that. For instance, I look at some Super Bowl bets I made years ago and now some of them are like 3-5k. The dollar amount back then that was being bet was very small.
I was talking to about this to a friend of mine and he has a few lunches that he was paid back for in BTC that are now also worth several thousands of dollars.
Any good stories you guys have? My friend got 500 BTC as a wedding present when they were $1 each. It came with a card that said "This is either going to be worth a ton of money one day, or I'm the dumbest person ever".
That is how I first heard about bitcoin.

I wasn't involved in bitcoin back in the day, but have always been reading about it. I've only been in this space for 3 years (2014) but the years before that sounded like one of the golden ages I missed out on experiencing, with the original dice games and things like that.

Well you are involved in it now . I still think the golden years are yet to come. Obviously the days are gone where you can make a million bucks off of a few hundred dollar investment, but there is still room for massive massive growth.

Down that road madness lies.
I've spent quite a bit recently but it's at a price level where I'm way in the black and it's about time I started to exploit it. If it goes to $100,000 I'll somehow still be able to live with myself.
I don't think I'd be a very happy Alpaca sock buyer though but I wasn't around back then.

Only one old transaction for me to look at.
I sold some stuff and got paid in Bitcoin back in September of 2016. It was my first time getting a lot of Bitcoin. I ended up with just under 2 BTC, at the time worth about $1200. I spent them, but looking back I wish I had kept them because they would be worth over x4 as much now.
Back at that time I didn't really know about Altcoins either, wish I could go back and invest :p

I always do. I mean we always do. My friend and I always go back and tell stories about what could have happened if we didn't withdrawn some of our coins. It could have been a large one now. Also, the transaction fees when it skyrocket to 90k to 150k per transaction with just small amount. That is our one day of doing faucets before.

That's impressive that a friend of yours got $500 in Bitcoin as a wedding present, and I think that's actually something pretty cool to be entirely honest. Sometimes I look at transactions that happened just a few months ago or something along those lines and see how many confirmations they have for the fun of it, and I think the last one I looked at is something like 12k confirmations, although I've been using Bitcoin for longer than I had the wallet so I would have to go on a hunt to find out how far back the confirmations are. I wouldn't be surprised to see some in the 30-40 thousands if my mental math is right.

I gambled away more than 1 BTC in a single day. I often think of the bitcoin I spent, but gambling away 1 BTC in one day is something I will never forget. And each time BTC hits an ATH, it pricks me.

Yes. And it is a mistake whenever I do that. When I look back in my Mycelium wallet and look at when I bought some bitcoin at $390 and what it's worth today--forget about it. I've come to believe that holding, and not selling or spending, is the way to go.
I looked a couple months ago at old transactions. Ugh. So many mistakes, so little faith in bitcoin.

He must be so rich now. (unless he sold for lower) I myself don't look back at old transactions. I've spent a good chunk of bitcoin when it was at the 600-700 dollar range and calculating it to the current price makes me sick. LOL

I dont have these kind of experience since im not those earliest adopters of bitcoin and its really amazing on thinking on the things on the past on where you are transacting big amounts of bitcoin since you know its just cheap on those days and those friend of yours do got the right prediction and been curios what happen to those 500 bitcoins as a gift as of these days? The owner would really be rich as of now for sure.

my first transaction (received) was in 2014 while price was still high at $500ish and hasn't dropped to $200. it was a faucet payment (silly me) worth $0.05 and that transaction is worth $0.31 today (rich me).
i have spent quite a bit but it is all a mess, finding first spent transaction is going to take me a long time. but i have never regretted spending anything. it has always been a beneficial spending.

I got involved in bitcoin an year ago and its price was just $650 at that time.I had around 0.30 btc as savings. But due to desperate need for money,i had to spend to it.Its value was $195 at that time. Now its value is $840.Just thinking that if i had saved around 2 btc at that time,by this time i would have got around $5600.

I do not look at it in that way. Say I want to buy a new graphic card and I have $1000 in fiat cash. I always look for the merchant that accepts bitcoins and I convert that $1000 to bitcoins and then buy the card. What would it have cost me in 3 year from now? Still $1000.
Let's say I converted this $1000 to bitcoins and the value has gone up to $3000 since I converted it, then I bought that same card for a fraction of what I invested, when I bought those coins. ^smile^

He cashed out some and then invested more of his own money when he really started learning about it and bitcoin's potential. He tried to talk me into it, but I didn't invest back then (which I obviously should have). At that time there was I think only Mt. Gox and maybe Bitstamp. He wired money into Bitstamp because that was the easiest way for him to get more Bitcoin back then. In the end, he pulled back all of his initial investment so, and is just holding the rest for the long term (which is still several hundred of them and is 100% profit). From there he diversified some into some Zcash, Zcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and a few others.

What a lucky friend, he has the coins? Because if he does then he is a millionaire, if he does not have the coins then I hope he got something nice for them because If I got that amount of bitcoin and then I wasted it I will be regretting that for the rest of my life.
