what's a float? the amount you keep that's unallocated and ready to spend either on crap for yourself, unexpected opportunities like new alts or even donations.

i usually keep about 0.05 free just in case something turns up.

Why do you create a new definition for the world "float"?

You're basically asking how much Bitcoin people have saved. That's quite a personal question, you might do better with a poll. I have enough to not feel comfortable disclosing the number but not enough to stop working for the rest of my life.

The definition of float, as it relates to money supply.

The definition of float, as it relates to investing.

EDIT: I guess you're referring to the definition of petty cash float, as it relates to money kept on hand for small and/or immediate spending needs.

Yep.  It's 100% obvious what he's talking about if you just read the two lines that he posted, but I guess you had to be pedantic and talk about the exact definition of the word "float" instead.

Personally, I keep about 0.1 BTC on my TREZOR, in a separate account to my savings, for any BTC spending opportunities that pop up.  If I'm considering alts, I tend to dig into my savings - the 0.1 BTC is more spending money for merchants and to donate to websites if necessary.

Whenever I need to do something significant though, I can easily just convert some alts into BTC or dig into savings.

I always keep atleast 1 bitcoin to spend on different things or to invest in some good ICO and in altcoins when they are correcting for quick profit.
Also I hold around $2000 in USDT always to buy cheaper bitcoins when there will be panic in the market.

I will always around 0.1 as floating bitcoin. It has helped a lot of times to invest quickly and also took it out for emergency with fiat need. I never touch it as long as it is needed badly. If I used it then I will probably refill the float as soon as I'm done using it.

I don't really keep money floating as I'm scared that I will loose it because of up and downs in the market. I know that it too complicated thinking in terms of holding a bitcoin as back up for quick investments. But I always like to have it liquid that is I will buy bitcoins and will invest as and when it is required to do so. :-)

0 BTC. At the moment i'm not interested in ICOs, altcoins etc.... i prefer to just buy bitcoin and hold it.
ICOs can be a useful tool but unfortunately today is often use only to "steal" some BTC: yesterday they used to build new shitcoins, today there are ICOs.
Maybe in future i can buy some altcoins, for example ETH or other.

Well remember ICO's can make you very rich as well, look at the ICO buyers of Ethereum.
Yeah, but it's like to buy shitcoins at launch, only a tiny part of the altcoins reach a good value.
The very majority is shit, made only to steal some BTC/$.
