IT systems firm Albvision Ltd recently distributed a press release in Kosovo and Albania stating that it is going to place one of these machines in the center of Pristina, the country’s capital.

The move comes as interest in bitcoin is booming in the country. According to Telegrafi, so far, this year Kosovo has imported €800,000 worth of equipment that went toward the production and assembly of bitcoin mining rigs.

The bitcoin ATM will initially only work with bitcoin, but support for 10 other cryptocurrencies will then be added. According to Telegrafi, the ATM will support the most popular cryptocurrencies, including Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dogecoin. Albsivion plans on putting bitcoin ATMs in both Albania and Macedonia in the future.

The press release has caught the attention of various organizations and, among them, Kosovo’s central bank, KCB, which warned against the use of cryptocurrencies. The bank pointed out to potential bitcoiners that virtual currencies like bitcoin aren’t regulated in the country.

The Bank of Albania, as recently reported by CCN, had previously warned bitcoin investors that cryptocurrencies weren’t regulated in the country, and that no financial entities – presumably bitcoin exchanges – were licensed to operate in Albania. Moreover, it stated five risks the institution believes the public needs to be made aware of, including volatility, lack of regulations, and potential use in illegal activities.

This is a big good news for the many Bitcoin enthusiasts and supporters in Kosovo and hopefully this will not the last ATM that can be posted in the said country. One of the many ways that Bitcoin can reach mainstream is to make it easily accessible to the end consumers. And we know that a physical ATM machine can add more excitement and can be serving as a big promotional item for Bitcoin as well.

I'm not really sure if there are a lot of people from Kosovo that are into bitcoin. Perhaps this is a indication that maybe there are a few.I guess for them, this is a good news and for sure if people saw those Bitcoin ATM, they will be curious and maybe, just maybe go join the crowd in Kosovo to bitcoin ecosystem. I think we need to watch a close eye on it and see how bitcoin popularity will increase there. Yeah, this is also a good promotion for bitcoin. Enjoy your withdrawing. LOL.

I am from Serbia and that's a shame my friends, Kosovo installed bitcoin ATM and we are still not. Bitcoin in Serbia is very weak known as I noticed. I talk about it to my friends daily, but there is no interest at all. Only one friend who haven't stable income joined to it few months ago. Sad.

When Malaysia installed its first ATMs (both in very hip, yuppie neighbourhoods, in shopping mall areas), the resulting media coverage also helped prompt the central bank (Bank Negara Malaysia) to issue the very same warning in 2014, which stands to this day. Both ATMs are now defunct, despite increasing volumes of turnover in Malaysia.
