Whoever sets up a charity pool gets 50 BTC.  The charity pool would give 1% of its earnings to a list of open source bitcoin developers and writers, which is available at git hub:
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/bitcoindonationinformation.txt

People can suggest other open source developers and writers by sending a message to me through the forum, or posting on the Bitcoin Donation Information thread at:
https://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=18498

The charity pool is inspired by the ecocoin:
http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=14343

The charity pool must read an almoner file which looks like the following:

Coin,1DbeWKCxnVCt3sRaSAmZLoboqr8pVyFzP1,0.0833333333333
Coin,1Pc9g2fmDML3EQ1r35KR4cRABwXE9nmHXW,0.0833333333333
Coin,129ZQG33GmqYRVSCw2hw7zmDUCvvMsuGbC,0.0833333333333
Coin,1KHAL8bUjnkMRMg9yd2dNrYnJgZGH8Nj6T,0.0833333333333
Coin,1NWc7N4FAs55hJ1xdTf3KWHZD89yn2PQKV,0.0833333333333
Coin,1MDDh2h4cAZDafgc94mr9q95dhRYcJbNQo,0.0833333333333
Coin,14V7RiwD3joqDF2Jv6zst3ZnQsR686u9iH,0.0833333333333
Coin,1JBMattRztKDF2KRS3vhjJXA7h47NEsn2c,0.0833333333333
Coin,126VZtqifE91nrBsXRkjZRMkTTvSTEMHPC,0.0833333333333
Coin,1HZNsUqQxKVLmfPfCAzLwrnVDzx8CxwxnM,0.0833333333333
Coin,1K44aRWSLkmC5KLvzp8awetNob6H99L9ND,0.0833333333333
Coin,199tVFYQyA98C5rdcnNj3zRpRCYMLmyRdn,0.0833333333333

then send the donation times the share to the bitcoin address, for each 'Coin' line in the file.

The almoner file is created from the bitcoin donation information with the public domain almoner script at:
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/almoner.py

If anyone wants to help administer the pool or the donation information, please send me a message or post in this thread.

Edit:
The setup would include hosting, web site, everything.  Once the site is up and running, whoever is administering the site would take a standard fee from the pool.

It does not have to look nice, it just has to work.  Straight html, no messing around with the background or colors, no animation.  Just the facts.

No, he's offering 50BTC. Depending on the exchange rate it might be more or less than $750. Grin

And I guess he expects you to host and admin the pool after the modification.

Yup.  The reason is that the setup would include hosting, web site, everything.

In theory it should be straightforward.  In practice, pools have a lot of difficulties, so that 's why the offer is 50 BTC.

It does not have to look nice, it just has to work.  I would actually prefer straight html with no css, that way there is no need to worry about cross browser compatibility.

A developer has made a charity pool that is being tested, half the bounty has been paid for that and if it works the rest of the bounty will be paid.

So if anyone else was planning on making a charity pool for this bounty, you may as well suspend your development.

If I post another bounty thread, I'll post a link to it from this thread.

For anyone else, the bounty will be 8 BTC for the next pool with this functionality, after that 4, then 2, then 1.

The requirement is you have to send 1% of the pool mining to the bitcoin addresses on the almoner list:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/almoner.csv

You don't need to do this every time you get a block, since that would mean a lot of transaction fees.  Every week (assuming that your pool gets more than one block a week), is sufficient.

Im ready to bring it up when you are.   How do you want to do this? Smiley  Do you have some text for the frontpage or "About" section that you would like to include?   Do you also have some information or text you would like to add for the official announcement of the new pool?
Implementing manual or automatic payouts weekly or per solved and confirmed block is trivial for me.  I will initially do it manually until the code is fully tested then implement automatic payout with verification/proof  of the donations available and directly linked from the pool's main website.

Also im forking the simplecoin frontend and starting a new project (yet to be named) based on large portions of the simplecoin codebase.  This pool will be running my fork of simplecoin.   The code will be maintained by me and available for freely available under GPL 3.  Perhaps i can get added the almoner list as well Smiley

EDIT: In case its not completely clear,  when i say im ready to bring it up,  i mean that it IS up and running.  Simply waiting from you to hear if you have any furthur requirements regarding the actual launch.

How do you want to do this? Smiley

Write the front page text, announce your site and start pooling.  Once you've made a payout to the developers on the almoner list, send me a message, then I'll contact a few people on the list to see that they did get the payment.  Assuming they have, you'll then get the second place bounty of 8 BTC.

Do you have some text for the frontpage or "About" section that you would like to include?

The requirements for the front page text is that must have a description with a link to the contributors page.

You must also clearly state how much you will be taking in fees.  You don't have to lowball your fees, you just must have reasonable fees and you must clearly state what they are.

Something like the following is sufficient.

This charity pool gives 1% of its earnings to open source bitcoin developers and writers. If you are a bitcoin open source developer or writer, you can post your information on the bitcoin donation thread and you'll be added to the list.

The administration fee for this pool is X%.

Certainly.  Once you have released any good bitcoin code under an open source license, you qualify for the list.

Yup, I'm still looking, but since you would be the third person to make the charity pool, your bounty would be 4 BTC.  With the same conditions, after you've made a payout, send me a message, then I'll contact a few people on the list, then I'll send you the bounty.

Just to be clear about donations....

The donation amount is 1% of the site's earnings or 1% of the pool earnings (blocks found).  You say it two different ways in different posts and now its not 100% clear to me and its important for this to be very clear to everyone i think Smiley

Oh one last thing...

This is not an official launch (although people can feel free to start using it if they want)  but i just want to leave this here for the record:

Up and running! Tomorrow i will write a proper announcement and release some more details.

The donation amount is 1% of the pool earnings (blocks found).  In other words with 50 BTC coin generation, the donation amount is 0.5 BTC per block.

The site is perfect.  When you make your first payout, please message me with your receive address and I'll contact a few on the developers on the list then send your bounty.

The pool is up and running and has been for a week, there is no announcement as we are waiting on our domain name. At the minute its just an EC2 address.
