Hi, I'm running 8x RX 580 rig and my PSUs only come with 2x 6+2 pin and 1x 6+2 + 6+2 pin cables so I need to figure out the best way to connect the remaining 2 cards.
Found this adapter on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007Y8FSMQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501028410&sr=8-1&pi=SL75&keywords=Sata+to+8+pin
It's probably ok for general use and maybe gaming but is it ok for mining? Is anyone using one of these?

That was my conclusion as well. But what is the reasoning - is there a chance they'd melt or something or would they not provide full 150w?

sata is rated at 54W so with two sata plugs you are still far from 150W which 8pin pcie is rated.

You are not even suppose to run the riser off the SATA power and you want to run a 8pin connector off 2 SATA plugs?

Cool, thank you guys, all clear to me now regarding the SATA adapter.
Just 1 more thing is nagging me regarding the 2x 6(+2) pin cable from PSU - it should give me full 300w so in theory I shouldn't have any problems connecting two 8-pin RX 580 cards to a single 2x6(+2) PSU cable.
Any thoughts on that? I know it'd probably be better to have separate 8-pin cables for each card but the PSUs I've got only include 3 cables each (2x 8 pin cables plus 1x 6(+2)pin + 6(+2)pin).

as far as why not to use a sata adapter. They will catch fire and short out. I have seen my nephew do this after I warned him not to. He is slow. I would not connect 2 580's to a single 8 pin connector. I have had evga and Corsair power supplies melt the connection at the psu on a single 480. That was a reference 480 that was running at 150 power limit. So around 250 watts. Even great psu's are not rated for constant use in mind. They handle it for a while but over time you end up with problems pulling the rated currents.
If you were undervolting and only mining eth you may get away with it.

I'm betting if your PSU didn't come with connectors to connect 8 cards, its wattage isn't rated to run them either.

Do the easy thing and just pick up something like this:

Or
