Agreed and besides there is nothing stopping someone else at a later date taking up the development work of the coin.

Yeah you lot holding the coins aren't the only bag-holders, the altcoin coders / sysadmins / etc also get left holding the bag, we already had more coins than we could keep up with maintenance work for, this latest bunch of crap is going to have to wait as long overdue now is an upgrade of the whole family of merged mined coins...

I cant even remember the price but I sold my 1500 for 1.1 BTC  I had to buy a gpu otherwise I would still be holding. Not bad for 6 hours of mining huh?

There's more than enough BTC in buy orders between 0.00038 and 0.00034 to double the price, they just need to be a bit bolder. Grin

Probably the traders that are entering buy orders for the purpose of actually buying YAC (as opposed to sellers trying to manipulate the price by entering buy orders) would have significant incentives not to double the price they're paying.  Probably for the buyers, it would be more accurate to say there's enough BTC in buy orders between 0.00038 and 0.00034 to crash the price and buy it for peanuts, they just need to be a bit bolder.

Observation, this behavior you're noticing at BTER where multiple orders appear at the same price, appears to actually be a case where BTER needs to show one more digit after the decimal place.  Watch closely at the trade history when someone buys or sells a group of those orders that look like they're at the same price, and you'll see it's just something silly like 0.00038, 0.000381, 0.000382 orders all appearing to be 0.00038 in the order book.  This also appears to be the reason for buy and sell orders that appear to be at the same price in the order book not executing, because there's a mismatch in the amount small enough that BTER isn't displaying enough digits.

can the coin survive if the dev hasn't been heard from since launch?  Doesn't exactly seem like the active type.

Hmm valid point, what ever has bitcoin done without Satoshi Nakamoto.....Guys?  Satoshi just left us all holding the bag no!!!

At least in the case of YAC, the basic premise was at least innovative.  Along those lines, I suspect there's enough developer talent who hold YAC that there's likely to be some level of ongoing YAC development.  I've considered forking the YAC client source on github and at least change all the references to NovaCoin that pocopoco didn't bother fixing.

Even those of us who got screwed at the start, i.e. windows miners, didn't get completely destroyed. I could've worked the linux mining out sooner and done better, but was super busy during the launch, so had to just "set it and forget it" and get on with my day. I still did ok compared to any GPU mining my desktop is able to do.

I've considered forking the YAC client source on github and at least change all the references to NovaCoin that pocopoco didn't bother fixing.

I'm also able to code, and although I have pretty much zero crypto experience, I've been learning quick, and have been finding out more as I go deeper. I see it as a chance to learn about all cryptocurrencies (BTC included) so I'm happy to contribute to the ongoing development of YAC.

If you wanted to take the lead, WindMaster, I'd gladly collaborate/cooperate.

Yep, noticed it this morning, though I can't add another digit. Might be api stuff like with btc-e

I went ahead and forked pocopoco's repository to continue YACoin development.  Someone already registered WindMaster as a user on github, so I reluctantly registered user "yacoin" (though I have some concern people will mistake this for an attempt to make that appear to be the official YACoin repository) and forked pocopoco's code.  I'll update the README on the yacoin/yacoin repository as soon as I get home to make it clear that it is not the official YACoin client repository.  And then remove all the NovaCoin repository references from the README as well!

This makes so much sense. I've seen orders at exactly the same price not matching.

The developers aren't treating their floats properly.

My fork will be maintained here:
https://github.com/yacoin/yacoin

I have updated the README.md file to make it very clear this isn't the official YACoin repository, incase people are confused by the "yacoin" user name.

EDIT - Reference to "NovaCoin" still running when you run the wallet twice has been fixed, and NVC replaced with YAC.  I think those were some of the more embarrassing aspects to the official YACoin client.

EDIT - Thread for ongoing development is now at:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=206577.0

Question remains how are sell and buy orders utilizing the 6th decimal digit for price even created.

Do they have API? I know btc-e api users can have one more decimal digit than web interface ones.
