I'm posting this under Off-topic as I feel it's most appropriate. I hope the moderators keep the thread here since I purposely don't want it as an [ANN], [ICO] or some other [next big thing] post. If you're here looking to get rich, move along, nothing to see here.

Just to be clear:

No ICO, there won't be a sale of any sort

No radical technological innovation under development

No team with years of corporate business experience. No PhDs, MBAs...

Okay, great we got that out of the way. Now to the three of you that kept reading, here's the deal:

I run a project, it's a music project called Block Label. Conceptually it's very simple and I think it's pretty cool. The project releases music for artists on services like Spotify and Apple Music. In return the artists receive some tokens. These tokens receive most of the profit the project generates. That's it, pretty simple.

The artists can send these tokens to anyone they want, meaning they can share their profits. I've sent the same tokens to people answering trivia and also sent some to charities. Here's where it gets interesting. Everyone with the token that listens to a Block Label release on Spotify and Apple Music are essentially generating a small portion of their own return since listeners are the ones that create the streams, which in turn generates the income the project gets. Profits are sent to the tokens, which are held by a listener, who then listens to a Block Label release...you get the picture, full fucking circle! I'll leave a link at the bottom of this post with some info about the neat thing about sending these tokens to charities and The Pirate Bay.

While all that may sound nice, we aren't reaching the numbers needed. Which isn't surprising regardless of the quality of music being released. There isn't any traditional marketing being done. Instead of paying Google and Facebook for ads I'd rather see it go to those that create the revenue, hence the tokens. A bunch have already been sent out, yet we aren't seeing any change in the amount of listeners. So, I want to try something. I'll send tokens to anybody that wants to become a fan and listener. You'll have to prove you're actually a listener first though.

  • All you have to do is follow Block Label on Spotify then post your Spotify username and bitcoin address.
  • Head over here to do so.

Any bitcoin address can receive these tokens, it's only when you plan on sending them you'll have to use a Counterparty compatible wallet.

I'll send tokens to no more than 10 new fans/listeners every month. If a lot of people happen to participate they'll go on a waiting list for next month and so on. We can slowly start to measure if people are actually listening and also see if people are being honest, that they aren't creating multiple accounts to get more tokens. Regarding the issue, if everybody created two accounts, that would lead to only half the amount of new fans/listeners per month. If you receive double the amount of tokens, but the total number of streams (profit) is half of what it could have been, it becomes a zero sum game.

It's great seeing submissions to become a fan and join the street team coming in!

Some seem to have either entered their Spotify username incorrectly or forgot to follow Block Label's profile properly. A list of bitcoin addresses that have had issues will be posted. If you see the address you entered below, resubmit the form with your correct username and double check if you are following Block Label on Spotify.

The correct username to use is the one that's displayed on Spotify, check your profile in Spotify to confirm what it is.

Below is the list of entered bitcoin addresses that have had issues:

- 1Aar3kCDwcF8ERBrXEGEA4dMJvcwf45AJY
- 1EAECn7nzqMbk7FD3qa1dvbYkWj58iSV69

!!! If you've submitted the form correctly, but haven't received anything yet !!!
We're using minimal fees, it may take some time before you see your tokens in your wallet. Don't worry, profits won't be distributed to the tokens any time soon. The following addresses have pending FANTOKEN transactions:

No pending transactions

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good to know:

* This project has actually been running for two years. I've been a little reluctant posting about it on this forum, I was concerned that people would treat it kind of like mining. That token holders start streaming as much as possible on all their devices. Which isn't such a problem now that our catalogue of music is longer. Even if one were to stream our playlist all day long, each song would only be played ~6 times. I've heard songs played on the radio more often than that!

* The total number of tokens isn't the important part here. The amount circulating outside the originating address is.

* If there's a profit, Block Label receives payment around 4 times a year. It's important to be aware that distributions will only happen a few times a year.

Each stream doesn't pay much, this article gives a good breakdown of it.

This is a cool project.  I do not want any free tokens or anything like that (Rather give those out to people more keen on them... [fans and listeners] )

I would dig to throw one of my tracks into the mix. Cheesy  Sorry maybe I didn't read the thread correctly but how do I submit my music?

Here is one of my more recent compositions.  I often release under different names and my music has never been more than a hobby. But perhaps you like it and wish to sign me up : https://soundcloud.com/blockchain-project/this-is-gentlemen

Total streams for the month of July: 13963

The number is based on the trend reports we receive (trend reports are unofficial sales data). It will be interesting to see how this develops going forward as more people receive FANTOKEN.

In the grand scheme of things 13963 is a low count, but it's way more than what we've previously received. Maybe there is a little bit more understanding around what the project is all about. Looking at the statistics, out of all our listeners it seems like we have one fan streaming 24/7.

Originally recorded in 2007, stoked to announce the release of these songs by 50Shots. They were actually quite popular in their local punk scene in the mid 00's!

Wohoo, just sent some tokens to our first street team member!

Since he's the first one to fill out the form, some extra tokens are due I think. Twice the amount of tokens were sent.

Everybody else will be getting 25 tokens.

Total streams for the month of August: 10356

Here's what the statistics we receive looks like:

It's less than July, however, we got 501 streams within a single day in August. That's 30 more than the best day in July.

The value of FANTOKEN

I recently received a PM asking how much these tokens are worth in terms of USD. Here's my reply:
Quote
These tokens are worthless at the moment! They have 0 USD value. There's no guarantee they ever will have value either.

If we ever make a profit, 90% will be shared amongst FANTOKEN holders. That's really the point of these tokens. If that happens the token would be valued based on how much 1 FANTOKEN receives from such a distribution. Right now we're operating at a loss = no profit = worthless tokens.

Let's put that into context and talk about what happens if there's a profit.

At the moment new musicians and bands that join the project receives 1000 FANTOKEN. Street Team members receive 25 FANTOKEN, in other words 2,5% of what the musician makes if there's a profit (when does that ever happen elsewhere!?).

For example, if there's a profit of 10 BTC and we were to make a distribution today:

- FANTOKEN holders would share 9 BTC amongst each other

- Currently there are 19691 FANTOKEN circulating outside the originating address, which means 9 BTC would be shared amongst 19691 FANTOKEN. This would be 0.00045706 BTC per FANTOKEN.

- A Street Team member with 25 FANTOKEN would receive a total of 0.0114265 BTC

Total streams for the month of September: 13348* (* I've counted a download as a stream)

A little short of beating July which was our best month so far. But we've set a new daily record of 927 streams!
