I can't say It wasn't obvious, I mean just by looking at their GitHub repository and how inactive they were on the forums to give support explained the whole situation. They announced[1] that they will stop giving support and someone should follow this video[2] in order to recover his funds in Electrum. Its better to start taking actions now rather then crying later, and those who are still using Multibit Classic should also move their funds.. i was expecting this to happen the day they started asking for money! that additional fee they asked for when using their wallet was the last straw for me and knew they won't continue doing the "development" for free.
it is sad to see it go away though. i hope someone picks up the development and releases new versions from here on out. it is open source after all. and it is always good to have multiple choices to choose from rather than just have 1 wallet option! specially since it was in a different language (Java) Electrum is Python and Core is C++

This was a good project actually but sadly it lacks the needed leadership and some resources to go on operating. They should have talk to interested parties that can took over the project. Anyway, I am also wishing that there would be people who can be interested to continue the project and really make it successful financially. Business come and go and I am sure that soon there can even be better ideas than Multibit.

It's a shame but the best products survive & those without the funding, sponsorship & new innovation die. It's the same in all walks of life re: business.
RIP Multibit.

I started with MultiDoge long ago and the obvious "next" was Multibit. I've used it for years.
Then Multibit HD has come, while Multibit (Classic) started to get less support. I switched to Electrum. Somehow I didn't manage to like Multibit HD.
Then Multibit started to have bugs, from bad to worse and I somehow expected that the end is not so far.
RIP Multibit (Classic and HD), it was a great piece of software once; thanks devs for your work.

This is hardly any news for people who have been using Multibit, because problems started to occur a few months ago, and devs weren't responding at all. People couldn't login to their wallets with correct password, restoring wallet was also glitching, transaction fees weren't calculated properly, etc. But there's plenty of other wallets, and soon it will be possible to easily import wallet seeds from Multibit to Electrum, so this isn't a significant issue.

Sounds strange to me. It is true I have had a couple of problems with it (Now it syncs from 2015 everytime a go in and I had to reinstall it due to an issue) but I have used it recently to send and receive some bitcoins and everything was ok... well time to move funds from it I guess.

The dev team seems to have given up on Multibit and may be decided to concentrate on other profit making ventures. It was such a wonderful wallet (both Classic & HD) with a user friendly interface.

It is unfortunate that KeepKey has decided to end support for both Multibit Classic and HD. I've used both recently and they still work well for me. Oh well, guess it's time to install Electrum.

I just moved my funds from MultibitHD to Electrum last week and I am happy that I noticed that MultibidHD is no longer properly supported before its too late one day.

Yes this is really the case. the multibit hd wallet lost supports. That's why they now lack of financial. I've heard some good news about that wallet and now I've saw news that it is dead now sadd.

Yes, I also moved funds from it and everything went fine. Better to stop using it though, because if it's not updated it can cause problems... also be careful to not receive further funds on your multibit address anymore...

I was originally a Multibit Classic user. Since they stopped support for that, i was trying to switch to another wallet. Multibit HD was an option but I went with Electeum instead. Glad I did what I did.

So this is how their announcement starts: KeepKey acquired Multibit a little over 1 year ago. At the time, the engineers who originally built and supported Multibit had announced that they would no longer be working on it or providing support. That means Multibit was dead the day it was acquired by KeepKey.

good. its death was overdue. it went completely crazy when the fees did too and there've been too many complaints about other issues recently.
people should've switched a long time back.

Electrum 2.9.0 has been released so you shouldn't find a problem restoring your Multibit HD wallets now. (The guide I gave above was using the latest version of wallet as well). Multibit support: If the user enters a BIP39 seed (or uses a hardware wallet), the full derivation path is configurable in the install wizard.
