The latest business trend is to provide Bike-sharing services. It's now a very popular business model in my country, Singapore - there is more than three operators already, and counting. However, I've yet to find any company which accept Bitcoin (or any other cryptocurrency - if their CEO hates Bitcoin).

I wonder how long would it takes these companies to see the value of Bitcoin and accept it as a form of payment. Meanwhile, will there be any new companies coming out that focuses their business on Bitcoin only*?

The only way that I think I am able to rent a bike with Bitcoin would be to buy a Bitcoin debit card and then use it. It would really be good to see bike-sharing operators start accepting Bitcoin. Anyone agree (or disagree)?

* I recently read about BitBike and their peer-to-peer bike sharing model is quite impressive - sadly they do not have option for me to vote for my city.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Bike sharing ! Here in my country we were having habit of providing ride for free of cost. But after many notorious incidents of robbery in the name of asking free ride, now a days we do not allow random people to enter into our car/bike. Still you are coming up with great idea of providing bike sharing for bitcoin payments. I believe this community will definitely welcome.

Bike sharing and bike stations have become much more prominent in the United States as well. Since this is a very particular market, I think that we would have to wait until Bitcoin is accepted more on a wide-scale basis. When major retailers begin accepting BTC as payment, we can hope that these smaller services will slowly join the trend.

This area is up for grabs! PM me if you're interested.

That is so nice of the people in your country! I have never in my lifetime been offered a free ride by a stranger - even if I am offered, I will reject because it looks very suspicious. Do you mind telling us where are you from?

That is partially right. For new businesses, accepting Bitcoin is kind of like a big risk and they should only do so when accepting Bitcoin is the norm. However, risk is part of running a business.

Since these Bike sharing services always utilize smartphone application (at least for my city) with internet connection, I don't see why it is a problem to integrate some Bitcoin payment gateway into the application. Gateways like BitPay even allow business to accept Bitcoin and convert them to fiat straight away - at least from what I heard.

Interesting. The bike share service I was thinking about that runs in the US (I'm forgetting the name right now) has stations in different areas. You can basically grab a bike from one "station" and drop it off at another station in the city. These services use physical payment I believe, like credit card or cash.

This area is up for grabs! PM me if you're interested.

You could write an email to one of the operators that work in your city. I'm sure if there was enough support for BTC adoption then they'd implement it. The only issue I could see them having is with the delay of unconfirmed transactions and needing the hikes to be released immediately.

To open a business accepting only BTC is too risky... You need to be open to all payment methods otherwise you will lose money. I think no one is going to do this, at least for now, and if so, it's going to happen for a ideal and not for profit exclusively.

About this bike-sharing business: Don't you fear to have your bike stolen? Is there any guarantee?

Bike sharing would be ideal to spend bitcoins on. Get a security deposit that can't be refunded. Perfect. I think the same should go for hotels, car sharing, etc. This wouldn't work at all where I'm from, but if you apply this to car sharing then absolutely!!

Definitely a good business model to implement Bitcoin or any other crypto currency. I think it will bitcoin will best after the segwit as the transaction will be faster and cheaper. Although the security is an issue with Bike sharing or car sharing, it is a good thing to lesser the pollution.

Their is always risk in any business you have to take some security steps like, take their identity proof after they show original one. First you should check the persons details so that it should not be that fake proof is given and then they stole the bike. So like their are so many risks which have to be cleared before going for this business.

Hi,

Bitbike is here Smiley

We just added Singapore, so now you can vote Smiley On the site you can add any city (but it's not very clear, we will change it).

We will launch our project in the spring of 2018 in the 5 most popular cities in the world by voting results on bitbike.me. Vote for your city, invite your friends to vote and maybe Singapore will be one of the first.

Really? Maybe it is not in my country yet. I don't know the full details about bitbike sharing though. I want to know further on this. In my view, it is maybe bitcoin will be shared by dual  or large group of people when it comes to selling in the market. If it is available in my country, then I will vote for it.

As long as there is not a big demand to guarantee that then business will not start accepting bitcoin, business are created to make money so if there was a lot of bitcoin users wanting to share bikes then you can be sure the owners will be pushing for bitcoin adoption, but since that is not the case then I think it is going to take a lot of time for that to happen.

It sounds interesting. Bike-sharing is quite popular in my country on warm period of the year. It would be nice if they start to accept bitcoin as a payment. But, if they would accept only bitcoins, I can't imagine how they would find customers to keep business alive. BTW, I think we should also include car-sharing business, because it's very similar sphere, but it's available on all seasons.

Bike sharing is a good way to decrease the use of automotive fuels as well reduce the pollution. More the automotive usage, more will be the pollution. When it comes to bike sharing, people use bikes for traveling to short distances. Here what the co-user need to pay will be very less than a dollar. This won't be that effective, if it's implemented as carpooling then it seems successful.

Its really a nice idea to accept bitcoin with these kind of ride service but it would really depend on its owner if he would accept the idea. Once it would be accepted then for sure it would really be a good thing for bitcoin to be adopt even more on this kind of service. Here on my place theres only a motorcycle service but its not complete a free ride at all.

A great concept to create an eco-friendly city, with our "shared bike" helps to save the planet from global warming. If bitcoin is applied in this concept, it is highly repoluisionary and worth supporting. We recommend that payment can be a kind of portable and practical card. If developed each country will be interested, especially developed countries such as America and Europe.

To be honest I do not know why it took so long for this idea to gain any traction, it has been known for a long time that the fastest vehicle in a city is a bicycle, also instead of burning fuel you are burning calories and getting more fit and that will help you when you are older and you have a better health, so no matter from what perspective you look at it using a bicycle is better than using a car, except for very long trips and stuff like that.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Let's hope that one of those bike-sharing companies (other than BitBike of course) will find their way to this thread and start integrating Bitcoin payment to their application.

I feel that some people still don't really get what I mean by bike-sharing. Basically the current business model is that a company come up with funding and manufacture their own Bike-cycle and then lend it out to people. Anyone who have verified their identity (with bank information) will be able to lend Bike-cycle from the company. After they have ended their trip, they do not need to return the Bike-cycle to any shop - they will just park (with lock) it somewhere. Another person can easily pick up the bike from there and start riding.

TLDR; start the ride anyway, pay online, stop anywhere.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Time to be active on the crypto forums again? Proud to be one of the few Legendary members of the Sparkie Red Dot!

Gonna put this on my resume if I ever join a cryptocurrency/blockchain industry!

I hope this service is kind of rent a car how we are getting cabs for Fiat cash but this is for bike and can pay in bitcoin. I think I have got your point.
This is one of the different service which I ever noticed in this forum. Congratulations for your success in this career.
