On Bitcoin Cash's website, one of the wallets being advertised on there was "Electrum Cash".  Electrum issued a statement here to say that they did not create the "Electrum Cash" wallet, and that it "constitutes a trademark infringement".

Since then, the Bitcoin Cash website has changed the link to the site electroncash.org.  They are still trying to trick Bitcoin users with the Electrum logo, and in the context of a Bitcoin fork I consider this very misleading.  They just very slightly changed the name and this completely unrelated wallet is still abusing Electrum's good reputation.

I don't get why they don't come up with original names and designs for their wallets. Whether they were maliciously trying to abuse Electrum's reputation as a wallet provider or not, it is definitely an amateur move and doesn't give much confidence to the coin.

its an altcoin
they announced publicly that they are going to do a transparent and direct bilateral split.

there are alteast 400 other altcoins which also retained part of bitcoins blockchain at a certain milestone/checkpoint. and then these altcoins also forked lite wallets too

so its the same drama as the other 400 altcoins.

As it says in their statement:
We have never enforced our trademark against altcoin versions of
Electrum (such as Litecoin, etc), because we consider that users of
these altcoins are well aware of the distinction between Bitcoin and
their coin, and that they cannot be harmed by that confusion. However,
we do not agree with the use of the Electrum name in the context of a
Bitcoin fork, because it suggests that we endorse that fork, and that
we also endorse that wallet.
It's plain disrespectful for "Electrum Cash" to know about Electrum's objection and choose to still push the boundaries with "Electron Cash" instead of just admitting to being a new wallet.

it's strange. although I have not seen anything like this i am sure that fauceters and the advertisers have noticed kinds of stuff like this and even probably become a victim. this kind of issue can be a serious thread to Bitcoin and specially electrum as they were using electrum logo. I have used electrum wallet in my past and have referred to their wallet because I think they provide the best light weight wallet for a pc maybe because they were using the python codes.

What did you expect from a bunch of looters and thieves? they will probably steal any bitcoins sent/stored on that wallet with the promise of giving us BCC, I just remembered there is already a coin with that name, but they didn't even think about that before announcing their intention of forking, they were in so much hurry that forgot the name/ticker. now shills still defending them Cheesy

It's not an amateur move, just a very simple attempt at scamming people who don't take the time to read the fine print and just go along with stuff they see. It's not like people don't do this all the time, and even some more well-versed scammers use something as basic as this from time to time. It's exploiting an opportunity without putting a lot of effort in, and, if they get lucky, they can walk away with thousands of dollars.

It's obvious they seek to abuse the reputation of Electrum to scam users, now all that remains to be seen is whether or not they manage to make money off of it.

That's obvious, but there is still people to be fooled, right? That's why they try to perfom this kind of attempts. They just damages the reputation of Electrum, that's all.

Yup, this is pretty confusing. Especially if the original Electrum developers decide to provide a wallet for Bitcoin Cash, then there will be 2 Electrum wallets for BCC.

We reserve ourselves the right to use the name Electrum for a Bitcoin Cash wallet, should we decide to publish one in the future.

It looks like they are no longer using a similar logo or font. Also, a big disclaimer on the front page clears out they are not endorsed by Electrum.

The disclaimer will help. People who do use Electrum Cash would know that they are taking a risk in doing so.
If BCH is indeed successful, other wallet implementations will follow. I can wait until that.

I think this is the latest release of Electrum. Its is now called "Electron Cash"

"Electron Cash" is a fork of Electrum for Bitcoin Cash. Electron Cash
is not endorsed by Electrum. It is open source, and binaries
(executables files) are available for Windows, OSX and
Android. However, when you run binaries instead of source code, you
have no guarantee that they match the source code. This is why wallet
binaries are usually signed by developers. A digital signature engages
the responsability of the person who signs.

The person who distributes the Electron Cash binaries has decided to
remain anonymous, and uses the fake name "Jonald Fyookball" in order
to sign Electron Cash binaries. Thus, if these binaries contain code
that is designed to steal your bitcoins, the author of the theft will
be anonymous and walk away safely with your funds.

https://electrum.org/bcc2.txt

Again, just be careful guys. I'm using Electrum as well but I haven't done the steps that have been outline. I'm staying cautious and careful because in an instant, our bitcoin could be gone forever. I will look at the instructions below later but I don't want to risk just to get "free" coins but lose our precious bitcoin.

Therefore, users who want to run the Electron Cash binaries should do
it on a separate same machine, that does not have their Bitcoin
wallet. We recommend to proceed as follows:

 1. Install Electron Cash on a machine that does not have your
 Electrum wallets.

 2. Wait until the BCC hard fork has taken place, and a few BCC blocks
 have been mined.

 3. Move all your Electrum funds to a new Electrum wallet. This will
move only your BTC, and not your BCC, because the BCC blockchain has
replay protection. Wait until the transaction is confirmed.

 4. Enter the seed of your (now empty) old wallet or private keys in
Electron Cash. Since the BTC have been moved to a new wallet,
entering your old seed in Electron Cash will not put your BTC funds
 at risk.

Following these 4 easy steps you will be able to access your BCC
without compromising your BTC.

Yes, after being called out for using another branded name in the bitcoin community again. Would people want to support this coin anyway after these things? I guess not.

bitcoin cash made it clear they are doing a bilateral split (altcoin). unlike elements:segwit which is trying to take over bitcoin, changing everything from the keypairs, block template design, network topology and everything else..

so why all the drama about bitcoincash..

litecoin dont even come with their own raw / from scratch code for litecoin. its a direct copy of core...electrum and other bitcoin based software

how is litecoin any different then the drama of the bch altcoin. or any other altcoin like clams

seems people are just over dramatising things.

yes i expect my post to get deleted because some people dont like to be hit with the logic stick...

BCC supporters know very well that majority of bitcoin investors would not support BCC and they would not transfer their BTC to BCC wallets for getting BCC.Already, most of the popular exchanges have announced that they would not support BCC and some have said that if bitcoin holders wish to have BCC,then they should withdraw their bitcoins and keep it in other wallets. So,BCC supportes are trying to mislead BTC holders by giving their BCC wallet name as Electrum cash wallet.Thats not fair.

I tryed to sweep my keys from bitcoin core into the Electron Cash wallet. But the transactions never verified and just vanished this morning. How do I redeem my BCC coming from a core wallet?
