As far as I know the google unlimited storage can be locked/password reset any time from the administrator of that (edu) domain that created this account, or?

But If you can buy it personally with him better.
For Google drive it will ask you for verification maybe mobile code or city where the mail originate. So simply chose the City and enter "San Mateo"
For Office365 no verification needed.
Just change the password to make it fully yours.
Yes its an .edu mail means you got unlimited Google Drive (5TB) and Office for student.
I check the domain details using whoisdomain and found out the domain will expire on july 31, 2018 but this is legit school so I think they will renew it until their school is operating.
