I think it times out after two minutes. So just make sure to refresh the page every two minutes to get the timer up.

Typically you sign up because you want to make an instant contribution to something specific. Instead you have to wander over here, post some gibberish to get the post count up, fake continuous activity for an arbitrary period, and *then* contribute to the thread that originally caught your interest.
