I think they nailed the name aspect though if I were to throw one out there I'd call it "Dollar Dollar Bits Yo"

Are you serious? There's nearly a 50/50 shot it WILL get renamed...and that drama starts on Tuesday.
The front runner for the "potential" new name is Bitcoin Cash.
Oh, and there are no other names being considered as an alternative.

Bitcoin will still be bitcoin. the "new" mirrored chain without segwit will be called Bitcoin Cash.

I like the humor in the new name though Bitcoin Cash acronyms as BC before the Segwit2x Whether that means it will be the better unit of account or Segwit was the right move for Bitcoin as we know it only time will be able to certainly tell. Until then I'll go with Bitcoin Cash as a good rename. Bitcoin Classic would work but I guess that imitates ETHC to much Bitcoin Origin Bitcoin One Bitcoin Alpha

I can not even guess the situation under which bitcoin would have to be renamed. Those events that may occur tomorrow, on August 1, can hardly lead to its renaming. If this happens, then any renaming will lead to a certain drop in its rate, since people are already accustomed to this term.

i think the OP is on about the point that a coin is a physical metal object.
and if we were to be more factually accurate at describing things, bitcoin is not accurate. just like wallet is not accurate.
EG a wallet stores money but a bitcoin wallet stores keys.. so a bitcoin wallet should be called a keyring for laymans more accurate description reasons
and bitcoin should if you are a sheep to core, eventually be called bitreserve because they hate bitcoin being used to buy things which people buy using coins in the real world (their bitcoin not for cups of coffee cry)
so although bitcoins name wont change as the op suggest. just ponder the idea if it had to change purely to be descriptively more accurate to the layman to understand how it works. what would you change it to.
for me it would be
bits - for the future common spendable value (100 sats) * btc(BTC) - for the comparison of gbp(£) usd($) bitreserve** - for protocol/code/software (because calling the software and the value the same thing gets confusing when using the term bitcoin for both)
* people dont say goldtonne or goldounce or goldgram. they just say gold and separately describe the measure (eg bitcoin is 1000000bits) ** if core gets its way and bloats up and continues stifling onchain capacity

I think the current name has already gain huge popularity and it doesn't need to be change. I believe that any other name will not be as attractive as "Bitcoin" because it already is in the minds.

Actually we dont yet know the future name of bitcoin. It will be exposed on August 1. Perhaps new name of bitcoin will be "Bitcoin Cash" (BCC). Orelse it may remain the same. Anyways bitcoin will stay best for us always as it has been in the past.

Was there a Bitcoin before Bitcoin? No, so why to rename the original Bitcoin? Just wondering if the next attempt of a Bitcoin copy will agree on a name which is not already taken before it will be dumped away (BCC = BitConnect)
