yes scrypt uses SHA256 internally While true in a literal sort of sense, scrypt does not use SHA-256 as its core mixing function. It uses salsa20 for that. scrypt uses HMAC-SHA-256 once at the beginning and once at the end of the algorithm, but salsa20 is the meat 'n' potatoes. Yes they are.. that is why they gave them the same names... don't let anyone tell you differently. WTF? Seriously If someone cannot even be bothered to do the least amount of research possible, then we as professionals should assist them as much as possible on their journey of laziness
