Damn. Rashad still fighting? LOL.

I'm not familiar with a lot of fighters in this card, Although the main card is quite surprising headline by flyweights and its "home town" hero Brandon Moreno. Really hard to pick who's gonna win because I haven't seen or just totally forgot them. I know Sergio is the brother of Anthony Pettis. I will just checked them probably in YouTube.

I though Rashad has already quit, why is he fighting again? He has lost his last 3 fights and a lost here would probably his last fight. He should win in devastating fashion like KO or something so that he can somewhat still revived his career. But I don't know if he's opponent is just a push over. Pretty sure he is in for a good fight.

Moreno is definitely the more aggressive player and will have a clear advantage. But still Pettis have a better defense and current odds for him are ~2.30-2.40 so I see a value here. I will bet on Pettis.

This card is hosted in mexico city which is @ something like 5,000 feet elevation. That could take a toll on cardio. Fighters who don't take 2 weeks to acclimate to the elevation, they could have endurance issues and tire more quickly than normal. When Cain Velasquez fought Fabricio Werdum in mexico city, some say Cain didn't take 2 weeks to acclimate & so he gased out quickly.

Looks like there is only 1 UFC event in the month of august. That may have been done to avoid scheduling conflicts with Mayweather vs McGregor which is also this month. Not certain what the reason is.

The UFC just cancelled the PPV they had this month to accommodate Mayweather Vs McGregor super fight as they want to focus their mind on the super card and on the point you said about Cain Velasquez,he lost fair and square,no one stopped him from staying in mexico for a longer time,he was outclassed and lost the fight as simple as that,i am not interested in this card for now,i have to watch the tapes to make a decision.

Looks like nearly every fighter who didn't take 2 weeks to acclimate to the high elevation lost their fights.  Sad

I didn't bet this card but I wonder if it would be possible to follow fighters instagrams/twitter/social media to figure out which fighters acclimated to the high elevation and which did not in advance.

Not certain if Brandon Moreno took this fight seriously. I think his boxing looked better when he worked with Saul Canelo Alvarez boxing coach. Sergio Pettis looked very good. Much improved. Not a lot of great fights on this card. Many fighters looked as if they were afraid of tiring due to high elevation.

Pettis is a good fighter, if he keeps on racking good wins they should give him a shot in a main card. I don't think Fight Night cards pay enough for one to risk getting your face broken. It must be frustrating for fighters to be in the UFC but get such small payments compared to the main card. There is a lot of overhyped people that got into the main cards. I think he got a bad luck streak with 3 loses but he will be back.

Rashad Evans is almost 40, surprised to see he still fights. His last win was in 2013... he was a decent fighter with some big names beaten under his belt.

@Kemarit. Rashad lost. Obviously he is just fighting for his pay check as long as his contract with the UFC is still ongoing. Once that contract runs out, I am certain that we will see him at Bellator before he retires.

I am also disappointed in Alexa. Not only did she miss weight. She did not fight that well versus Randa Markos. This fight was supposed to be her come back after her loss to Felice Herrig. Maybe she is only another pretty face like Paige Van Szant.

I didn't feel like this event was big and important enough to keep updating the thread since there was almost no reaction or posts in it.  I just assumed no one was interested.

Anyway here are the results just for completeness sake.

It must be frustrating for fighters to be in the UFC but get such small payments compared to the main card.

Some MMA fighters on invicta and bellator cards are paid $2,500 per fight. In other organizations the pay for 1 fight could go as low as $100-$500. There's a famous claim made by Chael Sonnen where he says the UFC paid him $100 for one of his early fights.

Payscaling seems like a sensitive issue & topics like taxes, inflation and elevated cost of living expenses never seem to factor into the conversation which is a shame.

For contrast, Donald Trump proposes reducing income taxes for the lowest bracket from 30%-40% down to 6%-10%. I think that would help MMA fighters a lot. Losing half pay to taxes is a big part of what devastates them.

Looks like Dana White only pays the top competitors, the rest you need a 9-5 job or else you are not going to be able to support yourself from fighting.

And even the top fighters don't makes that much compared to the pro-boxers. This is why Conor wanted the Mayweather fight so much, and this is why Jon Jones want to make a lot of buzz fighting Brock Lesnar.

Of course they are not paying top competitors, and remember if you don't performed well then expect the exit door. That's why competition is really really tough, Conor is really brilliant for chasing Mayweather and getting the fight. He can resign if he want to after the fight. And yeah, Jones is doing a similar moved to call out Brock to get the biggest paycheck he can get.

There are no more UFC events this month.

But there is still Dana White's contender series on tuesdays.

Sometimes books will accept bets on that, too.

If I'm remembering right WWE wrestlers starting pay is around $30k/year.

Professional boxers make less on average than MMA fighters. Only big name boxers make money.
