If my hardware wallet company (Trezor) goes bust and client disappears are my bitcoins lost?

Just use your seed and a bip39 decryptor to get all keys.
Or another wallet to import that seed.

Exactly having your backup safe and away from harm will make you okay. But it is also highly unlikely Trezor goes away, that is granted cryptocurrencies continue to succeed.

If you have a hardware wallet, your bitcoins are always safe with you. Event if the companies closes and stop it's support.
You can easily redeem the coins with the private keys.
