whenever I try to make a withdrawal now. It gets stuck on pending. Even after I have confirmed it by email.

I think lots of people are withdrawing their coins at the moment because of Poloniex lack of communication about what's going on. So be patient.
I withdraw nearly all my coins a few hours ago. Some withdrawals took a long time (between pending and complete) and others took 5 minutes.

After the BTC-E incident this is highly suspicious. Feels like the US are cracking down hard right now on crypto. Damn u Trump! Roll Eyes

I never believed any of the FUD against cryptsy. Which turned out to be facts...

We should learn that every exchange might fail at any time. I would have withdrew my funds if ihad any on poloniex.

So my comment is not about Polo and potential insolvency, but I noticed yesterday afternoon that their site was "down" or the home page was not rendering, anyway.  Any official reason that they gave for that?

Reason Why.

Polo is not playing with the BCH.  Literally costing them $1Ms per day in fees.
Also they froze the LTC wallets.  Steemians always bitch about withdraws.
Loads of other wallets are 'in maintenance'.

The whitefish is a bit stinky!

Another reason is they might have deposited (your) BTC on Bittrex and Bitfinex to corner the market and make a killing.

I HAVE NO EVIDENCE ... but I have a strong opinion based on observation.

All this FUD started after last delisting. Few rich pumpers decided to take grudge to Poloniex since was transparent and did not alert them in advance to dump their shitcoins.  Now we see similar posts as your almost daily. With zero reasonable reasons or proofs. All that happened in last 3 montsh from delisting was that Poloniex volume and users trippled and more.

Polo is either insolvent or the IRS is behind their back right now, the resolved will not be the same Polo again. I will not leave any of my coin in there for safety precaution, I rather be safe then sorry.
