[Tutorial] Export private key from blockchain.info for bitcoin cash!

First of all, I didn't write this all, but none less, if it works than that's the only thing that counts!   (source will be mentioned at the end of this tutorial)

Exporting Private key from blockchain.info

1. If you have not already got your Blockchain.info recovery seed/phrase you will need to login to your Blockchain.info account and navigate to the 'Security Center' and then click on the 'Phrase Backup' Option under Level 1 (Note: Once you backup the recovery phrase you will not be able to access it again. Make sure you properly record this info)

~ First off, make a phrase backup (exists of 12 words) --> Video on how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8rCsj1D3r4

2. If you have more than 1 wallet in your blockchain.info account you will need to determine which wallet contains the address you want to recover.

~This is more easy as it sound, you got to your wallet -> addresses --> if you have one address, than it's number 1, if you have your bitcoins on your 5th address on your list than it's number 5. (aka Count down the list of wallets starting with 0 for the first/'My Bitcoin Wallet' )

3. Once you have your recovery phrase you will need access to the Bip39 generator (https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/) or download the html to do it from your pc (https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39/archive/master.zip)

~ Download the Bip39 generator, to make it sound easier for you to understand, the Bip39 generator will transform your 12 words into eventually your private key.

4. Enter your Blockchain.info recovery phrase/seed in the webpage next to 'BIP39 Mnemonic'

~ Your 12 words --> BIP39 Mnemonic textbox

5. Go down to the Bip39 generator page till you see the text "Account" (you can find it under the title of Derivation Path).
Put into the textbox next to the "Account" text your address number (see step 2)

~ address number --> "Account"  text box (for example number 5, just fill in: "5")

If everything went well you will see your the textbox of "Account Extended Private Key" been filled with your private key! THIS IS YOUR PRIVATE!

Putting your private key into a bitcoin cash wallet!
~ Private key -> Bitcoin cash wallet!

1. Find an Bitcoin cash wallet that let's you import private key |>electroncash.org will let you import private key, and is also what this tutorial is based on (DO NOT USE electroncash.net !! this is an malicious website that could steal your bitcoin private key!!)

~ Download electroncash wallet

2. If you never used this wallet than at the first startup of the application it will show you to name your new wallet.

3. They will ask "What kind of wallet do you want to create", choose "Standard wallet"

4. Next option they ask is if you want to create a new wallet or restore on, choose "Use public or private keys"

5. Paste/insert your private key into the big text box, than click the "Next" button

~ Don't try to use the same private key as in the screenshots, it's an fake private key  

Finally if everything went alright you will see your bitcoin cash balance!

It only applies to people who have their Bitcoin before August 1st.

Hi, Appreciate you posting this info as it's been quite difficult to find a good simple guide walking you thru this process. 

Would this still work if you had BTC on blockchian.info before Aug 1 fork, but after the fork you've already transferred your BTC to other addresses/wallets? Would your equivalent BCC coins as of the time of the fork still be accessible via this method?  Or would we need to do anything different?

If the bitcoins where transfered before the hardfork than it's not possible, so I do hope for you the first bitcoin cash block was already mined before that time you send it.

Where do you have your coins right now? You need to export the private key from that wallet. If you send your BTC to Blockchain.info, the transaction will include only BTC, and not Bitcoin Cash. So you will not be able to claim your BCC later from the Blockchain.info wallet.

He is only teaching users on how to export private keys from Blockchain and even telling you to use Electron Cash - where he don't have access to your private keys - so you can spend your BCC safely.

Ok, to you two and Tonnes, I'll rescind my accusation and delete the original post. Sorry for my overreaction. There have been several threads where people claim to be scammed using the exact same process...however in those scenarios I'm assuming they were asked to send the private keys and pass phrase to an individual or a link that was not solely controlled by the exchange.

If you haven't seen these threads recounting theft I'll be happy to share them with you. My intent is only to protect others from becoming the subject to the same unfortunate circumstance.

Hi Tonnes - Thanks for following up. 

To be more precise I had all my BTC on blockchain.info as of July 25th.  Didn't do anything until Aug 7th.  On Aug 7th, I moved all my BTC to a completely new wallet, not even on blockchain.info anymore.  I assume that would mean my BCC/BCH (Bitcoin Cash) would still remain in my legacy wallet as of July 25th, but when I go through setting up the electron cash wallet, it shows that my BCC balance is zero and it shows my transfer done as of Aug 7th, which I thought wasn't possible. 

It almost seems like by transferring my BTC, my BCC was transferred as well and I'm simply not able to figure this out for some reason.  The steps don't seem overly complicated and I'm fairly technical, so I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong, or if by transferring my BTC on aug 7th, I somehow lost my BCC eventhough I understand they're 2 different blockchains that shouldn't communicate with each other.

Are you sure the program you linked is secure? You know, if they transfer your recovery stuff through the internet they might be able to get your blockchain.info account and steal all your coins.

You should still have the bitcoins in your legacy wallet (your wallet until 7th of August)

The first Bip39 generator is an html file that could be viewed openly for any weird reference in the source code.
The wallet that was mentioned, was referred on the official website of bitcoin cash: bitcoincash.org (after clicking go to wallets section and you wil see it mentioned)

I was having the same problems and took a closer look at what was happening. I think the issue has to do with it being an 'Imported Address'. The Private Key that is provided by BlockChain.info for my wallet was displaying a completely different wallet address when entered into Electron Cash.

Luckily I had a paper backup copy I made years ago and my Private Key was completely different to the one they had provided. I entered this into Electron Cash and Bingo. All my BCC is sitting there.

I hope this helps anyone running into the same problem. Had me worried for days.

I still can't really figure it out.  Tried a bunch of different things, however, it keeps bringing me back to this transaction which appears to show my BCC being transferred to a new address on 8/7 which is the date I transferred my BTC from my blockchain.info wallet to other wallets.

I have also been experiencing the same issue, my BCC/BCH balance being zero after making a BCH wallet with the private key retrieved through this tutorial. Just a few minutes ago, I finally figured it out and it was as simple as entering "0" not "1" for Address column. I had only one address at the time of the fork. I had imported one paper wallet before, which I eventually archived before the fork took place.

I now have the same amount in BCH in my Electron Wallet.

Just not sure what to do with it now though - can you trade it at this point?

Are others transferring it to a safer wallet, if so which one do you trust?
