https://ibb.co/gymNpvAre you attracted to cashback offers? Getting cashback on purchase you would have done anyway is perk for responsible shoppers. But cashback money has to come from somewhere because companies do not shell out those out of kindness. Cashback isn't reward when you have to pay for inflated price and convenience fee. The cashback you are getting on certain product/service reflects as inflated price and convenience (hidden) fee. Voila, YOU are paying for your own cashback. And most of the time you are obliged to buy from them again because cashbacks cannot be transferred to bank account. This way you are locked in with retailer to buy again to spend cashback you received and get cashback again, vicious cycle goes on and you end up paying more than you originally would have.
Here, let me give you an example- I want to book two tickets for route, Bangalore to Patna on 14th Aug.
Cheapest flight for the route costs-
flybit- ₹3546x2= 7092 What you actually pay = ₹7092
ixigo- ₹3048x2= 6096 What you actually pay = ₹7596
(This search was done on 26 July 2017)
What's going on here? ixigo is tricking you into thinking you are paying less by hiding convenience fee behind payment wall and offering cashback.
Referring to image the, search result page on flybit price for ticket for 2 is ₹7092. And on the finally you pay ₹7092.
And ixigo shows grayed and striked ₹3548 and ₹3048 (it is only the price of one ticket) in bold which looks like effective price because of the ₹500 cashback. When you click book, on the next page you'll see effective fare is ₹6596(₹3048x2) but you have to pay ₹7096(₹3548x2). But you are still getting ₹500 cashback which makes it cheaper than flybit, Right? Actually No. Have you yet noticed small grey text that says 'conv. fee ₹250'? This is charged per passenger and on the final payment page you are asked to pay ₹7596.
And this holds true for most of the flights we checked for different routes and days.
Would you pay ₹7596 for tickets which should cost 7096, only to receive ₹500 cashback?
'flybit' does not charge convenience fee or similar fees. What you see is what you pay. flybit does not offer cashback because our ticket are priced fairly in the first place. And in many of the cases you'll find the same even without added convenience by other websites that flybit tickets are cheaper.
