Why isn't iran taking over syria shia area?

The baathists aren't shia. They have this former dark communist touch to them, more like north korea. I see nasrahla, i see rohani and the gang and there is commonality... assad and his goons, not much. So when will finally a solution be found in the area? If iran let the kurdish area go and in exchange get all the shia dominated in syria and lebanon?

Anyway what are ruskies doing in the mix? If it was for a beach better annex the maldives!

More than 60% of the Syrian population is Sunni Arab, and close to half of them support the regime of Bashar al Assad. However, if the Shiite Iran gets involved beyond a limit, then this situation will change, as it will alienate the Sunni Arabs from the regime.

Is the syrian solution iranian?

Have you heard about a regime pocket called Deir Ezzor? It is sorrounded on all sides by ISIS controlled territory, and the residents have been living under siege for almost 4 years now. 99% of the population is Sunni Arab, and almost all of the government troops there are also Sunnis. But they have always remained loyal to the Assad regime.
