Hi Forum,

I am a new user so if I have this in wrong place apologies please advise. I need some help with Bitcoin and Electrum Wallet.

I have an Electrum Wallet on my windows PC (wallet 1) and it had around 2.5 bitcoin balance as at 1 August.

I read that I would get BCC equivalent for owning the BTC so I created another BTC Electrum wallet on the same computer and transferred all the BTC to it (Wallet 2) on 2nd August.

I then downloaded Coinomi onto an Android tablet and created a Coinomi wallet with BCC and BTC coins activated. I used the seed words for Wallet 1 (as it was now empty) with the understanding it would see BTC balance  as at 1 Aug and credit the BCC.

I waited till it synced but no BCC showed up and I just forgot about it to do later.

Next time I opened my Electrum wallet on PC (wallet 2) it has the history of wallet 1 partially merged with wallet 1's history and zero balance. I opened wallet 1 and it is the same.

The transaction where I sent the bitcoin from wallet 1 to wallet 2 just shows as a debit in both wallets. The private keys, the history and the balance are now the same in both wallets.

I thought may be just the local files were overwritten so I created a third wallet on the PC using the seed for wallet 2 but it shows a zero balance.

In desperation I created another Electrum wallet on another PC altogether using the wallet 2 seed words but it shows zero too.

During installation of wallets 3 and 4  there was an option for MH/ Huh?  I just left that the way it was, maybe I have created the error?

I don't have backup files as the merged history  has over written both files ( the ones stored in User/appdata/roaming....etc

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated greatly.

The Electrum wallet versions are 2.9.0
The PCs are windows 7(wallet 1, 2 & 3) and windows 10 (Wallet 4)

Hi, I don't seem to be able to delete the post but just want to say I created another wallet and this time the BTC showed up.

My comment is the whole crypto-currency system will have to get a lot more user friendly before it becomes mainstream like PayPal. I guess that will happen in time as the better systems set the standards and improve to user demand.

I didn't get any answers to the post but thanks to everyone that read it anyway....and yes you're right ALWAYS BACKUP!!

First, update your Electrum Wallet to 2.9.2 - I use Windows 7 exclusively and I sent all my Bitcoin to an exchange today and yesterday.
Secondly, you can't lose your Bitcoin with Electrum, you have to try to lose them; usually a dumb technical issue.
If updating to 2.9.2, restart your computer; my silverlight updated at the same time but I don't know if it has anything to do with it.
I'm dumb when it comes to wallets but Electrum is very much fool proof.
Help is always there, if not here, then GitHub.

Hope this helps.

If you were asked for the derivation path m/44'/0'/0' etc... then you must have clicked the "Options" button and then checked the "BIP39 seed" box. DO NOT do this if you are using Electrum seeds. While it will import them OK, Electrum by default DOES NOT using BIP39 seeds. It has it's own system that is not compatible with BIP39.

Just: "File -> New/Restore -> Standard wallet -> I already have a seed". Put your electrum seed words in and click next.

When you created the BTC wallet 2... did you get a brand new seed for it? Or did you just do a restore?
