Considering the number of Android based cell phones out there, I see Google Wallet catching on quickly. Google Wallet will certainly eat into PayPal's market share. As for kill off PayPal? Doubt it. As much as PayPal is a dinosaur in some ways as long as PayPal is tied to ebay, PayPal will survive anything Google Wallet throws at it.

Once bitcoin catches on, paypal is done. And so is google wallet.... seems like google wallet is a little late to the game. If it got here before bitcoin started gaining popularity than maybe. As far as I'm concerned, they are too late.

My thoughts: In those countries where credit cards are a common means of payment this is a possible scenario. In countries like for instance germany: Not gonna happen unless Google Wallet accepts direct debit. I mean google had to add payment through your cellphone suppllier to get their paid part of the play store going over here.

do you think google wallet will run on iOS? Apple has a big potential for a wallet service, much more then Google. Apple has thousands of users with accounts containing enabled creditcards.

On a related note, does anybody know of API to interface with Google Payments? Would rather use that instead of Paypal. Would rather use anything instead of Paypal.

If ebay begins accepting google wallet, it will definitely be a downward struggle but in saying that a lot of other websites use paypal still so there is still hope.

Not gonna happen unless Google Wallet accepts direct debit It seems, they already use it. According to them you already may use the bank account to deposit money into your Google Wallet. BTW, there is company called Qiwi (mostly based in Russia), but moving into Wester Europe, that has payments via phones and SEPA.

I don't think it will kill it, I've used google wallet for a while and I still prefer paypal. Plus unless google has way better features than paypal, which I doubt they will then people won't really want to switch over.

Does google wallet freeze people's accounts like paypal does?
Why on earth would bitcoin enthusiasts care at all about google wallet? Unless you plan on using it to buy bitcoins...

Thanks for the link, Theraty! I wasn't exactly clear on what I wanted... was trying to find the way to send payments to Google Wallets. It seems the API they have only does "checkout" and some kind of "login via Google account" stuff. Could not find the part where I can actually send money from my wallet to somebody's else's. Did anybody do this kind thing? If that's possible, I would drop Paypal in no time.

Google will destroy paypal in the long run using their market monopoly. They surely start functioning at eBay also. eBay can't deny google wallet access. (otherwise they would end up with a bunch of lawsuits)

Also don't forget Paypal has a lot of restrictions on what you can take payments for. Example. No adult material.

Paypal is integrated so heavily in eBay it will always have a user base. Too many merchants already accepting it as well. Google Checkout has been out a long time and Paypal is still around.
