Apple vs Bitcoin

Seems major tech giants are trying to go their own way. I can't imagine it working out that well to compete with an open system using a closed one? I doubt this is the last we'll see of this trend

Re Amazon Coin: I would never swap my BTC for Amazon coin..  I think their coin is just stupid. THey might aswell call it Amazon Vouchers.

Re Apple: This is the reason why I can't stand apple, apple products... seeing all people on Mac with Iphones all the time.. I'm thinking, 'Where are your principles?!!  CLOSED SYSTEM!'

Amazon's arn't true crypto though, just a proprietary payment system. As is Apple's. In calling it Amazon Coin it is obvious they are trying to slip into the hype stream.

Apple is about as closed as you can get, in a way the polar opposite of the Bitcoin mantra. They want you to use their payment system instead of Bitcoin.

People don't care about software principles, they just want the latest new shiny.  Think about it, what percentage of users actually even understands the argument you're making?  I'm willing to bet less than 1% of the population could even tell you what an 'open system' means in terms of a software ecosystem.

Apple products are generally very easy for new users to learn, so they see widespread acceptance and use.  The open vs closed thing is literally not even a tiny, minuscule consideration in which phone a "regular person" (not bitcoin nerds like us) will choose.

Geez what a bright idea
Geh .... Please NO!
Unlike an alternate currency this only work's with their stuff just call it a voucher or points since you can't use it anywhere else
On the other hand
Add it to the list of stuff we can buy with bitcoins  Grin
Let them make it and then we just convert it lol till they realize that's a bit redundant and just accept it someday or a ton of them will make a block and it will be Big Tech vs Bitcoin. With Bitcoin still selling them if they make them sendable if they aren't sendable then it's not interesting.

True enough, though if they are so closed they won't even allow any other payment system to be used on their devices takes it to a different level. Apple doesn't want to support Bitcoin. Just like it didn't want to support Google Maps and made their own that so famously floundered from day 1 before letting Google back in. This has been Apple's MO for a long time. Bitcoin has the power to kill their payment app and they know it.

Apple is dead, and the fanbois are zombies.

Microsoft is dying.

Open source owns the back-end of the world (linux/BSD), and the front-end of the vast majority of users/tablets/phones/devices (Android & linux).

Apple will eventually begin to accept open source, or they will disappear completely.  And Microsoft will become just another patent troll, until the vendors who use Android figure out where the power lies, and the major corporations and the governments start hitting Microsoft's bottom line with an axe.

Apple are afraid that someone will be able to sell apps for BTC I think, they are pretty greedy and IMO not really talented in any way besides marketing plus take into the account the average IQ of an app reviewer and there you have it, oh and Amazon coins, pftt...

Puts a smile on my face, Apple is down to < 21% market share if memory serves, and the gap is widening even more - especially with tablets. They will eventually have to change their thinking or even your wanna-be-cool-kids will be upset about missing out on the opporuntiies open source will bring.

You'd never know this from the massive barrage of product placement and celebs using their shit products, but it's all marketing. If they don't innovate something or become more open fast, they will continue to decline.  Wink

Apple's original innovation was good, and their marketing is amazing, it's kept the average non-techie thinking their product is the best thing since apple pie... but that will only get you so far.
