You don't have to tip writers, but that's the concept of tipping - to show your appreciation. This is developer's answer in their blog.

Advertisers will be able to purchase ad space using the token.
In addition, developers are planning to offer premium services (e.g. podcast, specialized content,...) with the token

Well it's pretty obvious to me - the team focused on creating a product instead of wasting their time on generating a fake value for their token (I understand this is not the preferable way for quick-win investors)
The product is growing, and the quality & quantity of content is impressive. It seems like they know what they're doing

That's true team worked continuously on building quality platform and still they are doing their best. At the same time importance of sufficient liquidity and good exposure which comes by listing on big exchanges can not be denied or ignored. Snip has achieved first small goal but it should be pushed for more volume by bigger investors.

What is my concern about the SNIP is its large supply which will keep pressure on the market. Specially in current scenario when demand of token is very low not being on the table of big traders. In short term's volatility isn't issue. Platform in itself is of global level to be best alternative of current mass media with censored news. May be being global 10 billions token gives justification.

There is no moderation in general. The posts are ranked according to the user feedback (using Snip's ranking algorithm)

And another question. I see an arrow in upwards and downwards position.. Selecting any of those will benefit the writter? Because I'm not sure if the arrow :arrow_down: means I don't like the news (how it's written or whatever else) or it means that I don't agree / like with something mentioned in the news in a good way. I understand what you mean. Developers will be changing it soon to a heart so that it's more obvious that you like/dislike the content. That also helps tailor the content to you, though currently personalization isn't strong

People are more attracted to valuable things for this purpose listing on more exchanges is necessary. Qryptos is only exchange at the moment which is providing good volume but isn't sufficient to push the price upwards. With the increase in value we will more people showing interest in the project. Also exposure will arise curiosity in people to find out more about Snip.

I agree with you. If the team conducts ICO, then do not forget about the good exchanges. This is good for investors. And the developers themselves should be interested in the price of tokens. Therefore, the collected funds will end, it will be possible to sell tokens for financing further developments.
