Dwolla and Mt Gox

apparently Dwolla has had to freeze whatever assets of Mt Gox they held at the direction of US Dept of Homeland Security.  Seems they are coming after Bitcoin (and others) afterall.   How will this affect the future of cryptocurrencies, or at least within the US?

There were a few very simple rules that were broken.  The language in which they are written is clear English.

Yea, except "mtgox's middle man in the states" and the CEO of Mt Gox are the same person, hence the seizure.  He tried to skirt the regs and it backfired on him.

I've had to sign those statements when opening a business account.  If what we've read is accurate then he did falsify the paperwork and is now has to suffer the consequences.  Seems he could have filled them out truthfully and continued on in business.   Too late now, at least for him.  Maybe someone else can take over in the US on behalf of Mt Gox.

Very interesting... when I first heard the news I kind of just raged about the government, but I guess it's more the CEO of Mt. Gox's fault. Probably would not have been an issue if he didn't lie on those forms.

Well, hopefully in the future there's a way to go from coins to Dwolla again, because I found it very convenient and very low on transaction fees.

What is everyone else's favorite way of going from coins into your bank account? I'm mostly on btc-e, and the only other options I see at a glance are paypal (but a 6% fee seems steep), btc-e code to wire transfer through aurumxchange ($30 fee, also steep for someone like me that doesn't trade in large denominations), or liberty reserve (i've done very little research on this one).

How about CoinBase, anyone use them?   Similar to Dwolla in that you can link your accounts, but you must buy/sell through them.  So far I find it frustrating that moving USD in or out of BTC or other currency takes so long to transact.   I think if those times could easily be cut down, and without excessive fees, more people would participate.

That's why Dwolla was great. I was able to go from btc-e code through aurumxchange to mt.gox dollars, then withdraw into dwolla, then into my bank account, and the total fee was just the 25 cents from dwolla

CampBX also utilizes Dwolla, is located in the U.S., and you can do a simple ACH deposit into your bank account for your withdrawals ($2.00 fee), or even request an old fashioned paper check be sent to you.

Interesting issue since they said BTC wasn't currency - but clearly they're now taking the position it is currency?
