I dont know basics of altcoin mining, still want to start mining with small investment of $4000, gradually learning and investing upto $40,000 into this? What hardware should I buy Antminer or Avalon741 or others. Also suggest some reliable indian vendors where i could see things before buying.

I would suggest to start with Antminer S9's, or Antminer L3+'s, I think you should be able to get 2 of whichever you choose for 4k$. As far as I know they are the best bang for the buck on the markets right now.

Biggest thing for you to know is that altcoin miners and Bitcoin miners are 2 very different things.
The Bitmain S9/T9 and Canaan's Avalon miners are for Bitcoin only. They are ASIC-based devices that cannot be changed to mine other coins.

For altcoin miners you need to ask in the altcoin sections...

Dear friend,
The problem here is that all Antminers are out of stock and Avalon though less powerful and lil expensive are at least available. After ordering, (the site says) they will deliver in 1 week to 10 days. I think, i should order 2 of avalon to startwith and then wait till s9 starts delivering. The bigger order i will place to bitmain.  Is it worth the wait ??

Again, as NotFuzzy said, you can't mine altcoins with S9's.

If you are looking to mine bitcoin indeed, I would just suggest waiting for the S9's to become available again, as they are much better than Avalons in my opinion,

If you are looking to mine altcoins, Litecoin especially, then I would recommend waiting for a L3+.

Depends on how much your power costs??

Less than 4 cents kwh...BTC mining might be profitable......

More than 4 cents kwh...GPU mining might be profitable.....

Is it still possible to mine bitcoin on a smaller scale and for it to be profitable or are we at the point now it is been done on an industrial scale that the normal beginner miner won't turn any profit and as such am I better to look into the altcoin side of things and just convert any earnings into bitcoin?
