Common difference? Well the thing comes to my mind is their value. They do really differ on that way and 2nd is that Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and all coins after it is just an altcoin. Even though there are lots of altcoin in the market we can still see potential coins which would possibly surpass bitcoins value on upcoming years but well this would depend if community would adopt it or decide to switch back.

i don't think so... it is still alternate coin, and that is why it is called ALTERNATE coin because of the reason stated above, but you can sell it to convert into bitcoin. the difference is not only the name of its coin, but its function and uses, and much more is that they par lower than bitcoin's price, there are also alt coins existed that almost within the price of bitcoin but it still varies to the price of bitcoin.
