Hi guys,
general question: is it ok if i plugged a S9 Antminer to a extension Cord? It appears to be a somewhat heavy duty indoor/outdoors orange extension cord with 3 plugs. Is that safe?
I dont see any specs tag on the orange cord, and i couldn't find anything online if the S9 can be plugged to that (in an apartment)
What's the worse that can happen, it trips the Breaker?
thanks

Only if it's rated for the current. Make sure it's AWG14 or AWG12.

I use cryptocurrency and solar power to help my best friend Naomi Wu... And I'm proud of it!

Do you have any receipt or model number that you could give us? It could help in identifying wire gauge and such. It could possibly work depending on the maximum current that can be safely delivered through the cord. If you're feeling adventurous go for it, I wouldn't risk it though.

The wire could get hot and melt the plug. Worse it could melt the cable .

Orange is sometimes 16 gauge and would not be safe.

How long is the run?

25 feet or less I would use 14 gauge
25 to 50 I would use 12 gauge

I would never do a run over 50 feet

You have to be cautious on using power extension at home, it may lead to disastrous result.

Since S9 has Power Consumption: 1375W + 7% based from the specs.

You will be needing power extension that rated to handle 1400 or greater wattage.

source from: https://www.thespruce.com/extension-cord-choices-1152867

Extension Cord Wire Gauges, Amperage Rating, and Wattage

Wire Gauge   Amperage Rating   Wattage Rating   Power Tool Used
#18   5 Amps   600 Watts   Detail Sander, Drill, Jig Saw
#16   7 Amps   840 Watts   Belt Sander, Reciprocating Saw
#14   12 Amps   1,440 Watts   Circular Saw, Miter Saw, Router
#12   16 Amps   1,920 Watts   Table Saw, Radial Arm Saw

AWG #14 would be a good choice.

Thanks everyone! I've decided it would be prudent to buy another extension cord that i know is AWG #14 based on feedback from here.

AWG 14 is NOT going to be safe to operate a device 24/7 at so close to it's RATED capacity - that capacity is an INTERMITTANT capacity rating, like any other electrical wiring you need to derate it at least 20% for continuous usage.

AWG 12 or don't do it - and IMO it's not a good idea to run ANY high power miner on an extension cord.

Also, the COLOR of a cord means nothing - orange is common in cords intended for outdoor usage but the actual capacity of orange cords varies a LOT.
