Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Why it's so important to use a desktop wallet?

In desktop wallet you are the owner of your coins and you have access to private key. But in online wallet the most of the time the wallet provider doesn't give private key. This means the wallet provider is the owner of the coins and they can shut down or whatever..

What are the best bitcoin desktop wallets? And also other wallets that include a number of altcoins goo?

For Bitcoin, I'd recommend Electrum wallet. It's easy to set up, you have access to your private keys, and it also provides 2FA with Google authenticator. Here's the link: https://electrum.org/ And, it is endorsed by Bitcoin dev team too, at the bitcoin.org website.

If you have a good hdd or ssd with big capacity like 2TB minimum do not hesitate to install Bitcoin Core wallet. It is the most stable of all desktop wallets and it is also very secure to use. If you don't have space you can try to install Electrum or MultibitHD wallets. Do not install web online wallets as their security can be compromised easily and they are not good wallets differently from what newbies are saying here.

Our team is grading coins/exchanges/wallets on their use of best in class cybersecurity practices. We encourage ICO investors to check the #CryptoHygiene of their potential investments (https://www.securecoin.capital/cryptohygiene)

For Electrum is one of the best desktop wallet because electrum is one of the most robust, effective and secure desktop wallets out there. Also it’s open source, meaning many people have taken part in reviewing and composing the code. This reduces the chance of malicious code inside the software to practically zero.

Blockchain.info is a web wallet but it's really good.

I would highly recommend Bitpay wallet for desktop. It works on every major operating system and on both IOS and android. It is very user friendly and its currently my main wallet.

Seems like a lot of votes for Electrum. What's the benefit to Bitcoin Core? What resources does it take to host a node? Could you use an external hard drive for your wallet? Would that improve security as it can easily be taken offline?

Yes, generally running core on a separate hard drive is more secure as it can be taken offline. However one risk is that the hard drive may fail. You can also use a paper wallet for cold storage and a normal wallet for your hot funds.

Maybe its a silly question, but i just downloaded ELECTRUM and i thought there would be a InstallWizard.
The Wallet is now set in the AppData/Roaming/Electrum Folder, but i would like to change the Location of Electrum.exe, is this possible now
or should i leave Electrum.exe in the Download Folder??

I personally recommend Electrum and Exodus as desktop wallet.

But what do you guys think about Jaxx - is it worth to try this wallet?

Jaxx is quite similar to Exodus in functionality plus it has mobile version. Both are not open source.

The best desktop wallet for Bitcoin is Electrum. You can download it from electrum.org.

About multicoins wallet, which altcoins do you need exactly?

My favorite Bitcoin desktop wallet is Electrum https://electrum.org/.  My favorite desktop wallet with a bunch of altcoin functionality is Exodus https://www.exodus.io/.  It supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Decred, EOS, Salt, Dash, Augur, Dogecoin, and more.  Great user interface as well IMO.
