Elwar,

I would never recommend investing your life savings in something as volatile as Bitcoins. You may fall asleep and wake up penniless unfortunately. Maybe in the future when we don't have bubble after bubble Wink

I agree, I am not investing in bitcoins. I am using my new currency.

I do not invest in dollars either.

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.

Litecoin will have a great future, with any hopes.

I'd stick with those. Maybe a new alt coin could have promise when this cloud of "get rich quick" altcoins passes.

There's a fairly clear tradeoff with most cryptocurrencies. The newer/lower priced a cryptocurrency is the larger upside potential it usually has, yet it also has the greatest risk as many of these go under. If you'd like a more conservative investment go with mostly Bitcoin, some Litecoin, and perhaps some Namecoin.

If you invest in a smaller cryptocurrency it is usually beneficial to get involved with their community as well. The only way any new cryptocurrency will work is if it has a good community backing it. Without that they usually fail.

Most altcoins offer little over Bitcoin, just a few tweaks to the parameters or algorithms, if there is going to be a replacement for bitcoins it hasn't been invented yet.
We dont need multiple currencies we need  1 that does it all.
I'm only holding bitcoin, the rest will fade into obscurity.

Nothing in cryptocurrency is a safe long term investment right now because there are heavy traders controlling pricing with bots and high volume.

If you're interested in higher risk/higher reward investments, you might try day trading for penny stocks also.

I'll second some posters here recommending silver as well, its well below the long-term trend line right now.
