How much ETH do you have by the way? While it is advisable that a desktop wallet is made to make your ETH safer, if your ETH is not that huge, you can use with convenience myetherwallet.com. Just keep the address and key and password safe with yourself.

You should buy hardware wallet. Ledger nano S is the best option. You'll have access not only to ether but also erc20 tokens. Also you can keep there Bitcoins and other coins like Stratis, Komodo, Zcash etc.

i don't see anyone mention this and it is pretty new news so i'll say it.
you can check out blockchain.info too if you are interested in a web wallet for your ethereum coins. it is very new and they recently added support for ETH (a couple of days ago). you can give it a try and also there is a built in shapeshift to convert it to bitcoin too.

No issues so far and you hold your private keys here and you can choose which you want to use for logging in. Just be careful as phishing sites are everywhere.

And in the end of the day our wallets is all our liabilities so no one can blame if we get hack.
I love using MEW and been using it since I started here and I dont have any problems using this.
I just make sure that I save my private keys and wrote it on paper like what Im doing in my seeds so I have a better back up when things goes wrong.

I really like myetherwallet.com, this wallet is the only one and I haven't had problems with it at the moment. Besides it supports many other tokens, if you are interested in enlarging your Portfolio.  It's easy to use and for security I did the same, I wrote my private keys in my journal.

Use MEW, if you want a nice interface then try Exodus they got some cool themes which could also let you switch between various currency denominations easily. Lastly always backup your private keys..its important.
