Yubikey is a piece of physical hardware that you plug into your computer when you log in. It has a unique passcode programmed into it so only YOUR yubikey works with your account. A hacker with a different yubikey will not be able to gain access to your account. He would have to steal YOUR yubikey in addition to having your login password to gain access.
