Hello,
I'm very confused-
Should I buy Vega 64 (faster memory and more Raw computing power)
or 1080ti - overall a better card and much lower power consumption and way better at games.
or dual 1070- (lowest power consumption)
They all will cost the same.

lol issue is my machine has only 3 slots- I have one 1080ti I thought another AMD would be nice- however, AMD 64 Vega I jumped the gun and pre-ordered - so if I don't decide quickly I'd have it on my hands.

Don't know how to close the thread.
I just cancelled the order for AMD Vega 64
Found a 1080ti at a cheaper price point.
It may be slower but it'll have a better resale.
Thanks

You made the right choice. AMD Vega 64/56 hash rates are out. At 32-36mh, they dont even come close to the 1080ti because of power consumption. The vega's power consumption will eat up your profits.

I had same question few days ago. Vega was not available and it seems for now vega can be bought for lolz! 1070 was only like 15 eur cheaper than 1080. I found those zotac mini 1080 with gddr5x quite interesting and cheap - 415 eur +vat seemed for me like a good deal when 1070 costs only few eur cheaper. And it has one 8 pin connector. Well, 1070 ir very nice card, but in this case I have decided to play with 1080 a bit. If you are planning to put cards in pc case then go with two 1080ti. I have tried to put 4 evga 1080ti sc2 on asus apex motherboard but it is basically impossible to cool them. So I am using just 2 right now. In theory if you can find motherboard where there is 2 slots between each 16x pcie slot then you can use 3 cards in big case like Define XL R2 (which has 11 pcie expansion slots) but I have not found such motherboard as triple sli and cf is long dead. Also, in theory maybe it is possible to cool 4 wattercooled cards on such motherboard like asus apex - you need reeeaaalyyyy big case then and place to fit 4 watter coolers. But Then it would be one baddaasss video rendering rig (because gaming is using only 2 of them) and mining rig in spare time

Currently definitely 2 gtx 1070s, they get more hashrate in ZEC, Eth and probably every other algorithm, looks like vega isn't very good.

Profit is achieved faster than expensive cards. But this is a personal opinion

Of course most of old cards are still good for mining, but do not forget about energy effeciency: new cards on 14-16nm techproccess are 1.5 times less power at the same computational power. And if you have limited electricity outlet so now it's time to change old cards to new

I watched the tests of cards 1070 devour 180 watts at 460sol well old 280x with the optimization of 185-190watt So there is no difference there 1.5, but I do not argue at the drain at 1.250Volt they eat up to 250wat it so that the manufacturer does not bother with the fit of each card then at an ASIC more than 70% the card easily holds at 1.081volt frequency 1090/1600 Yes, I do not argue that a couple of years when 1080 will cost 300-400usd it will be the most

You compare not optimized 1070 with optimized 280x. In tests I reached about 210-220W power consumption from GTX1070 on Neoscrypt, but it's not optimal To get 460sol/s from GTX1070 it could tuned at 140W consumption. The simple example: 28 nm GTX970 gives 290 sol/s at 140W (OC, DV) 16 nm GTX1070 gives 450 sol/s at the same 140W (OC, DV)

I do not know cost 500+usd aginist 150usd So power consumption no big deffierence or 140-160w or 180w This is my IMXO

From the current information, 1080ti is much better. What people fail to see is that 1080Ti costs over 40% more than a regular 1080 for only 25-30% more performance. The comparison between 1080 and 1070 favours the 1080 in the same way. The 1080 will ROI faster.
