What do you think?

I think BTC has a very good chance to be the one that "makes it"...

Not if there is a higher demand for a different crypto-currency.

I hear Litecoin is faster, so it will beat Bitcoin when you are at a cafeteria buying coffee, in cases where you may have queues if you accept Bitcoins. Although, bitcoin is quite ok too, I have been buying burgers at a local shop with bitcoins once in a while and it seems to work as fast as my debit card. But still...

I don't see any other currency 'beating' Bitcoin unless something goes seriously wrong with Bitcoin.

The guys on Let's Talk Bitcoin covered the possibility of a large business or corporation forking Bitcoin and outpromoting Bitcoin with their new currency. I actually think this could be a threat, though it isn't that likely to succeed. The writeup on the episode is below.

http://cryptojunky.com/blog/2013/05/17/lets-talk-bitcoin-bitcoin-goes-radio/

There are a few inventive cryptocurrencies that may end up having a place next to Bitcoin, such as Peer-to-peer coin (PPC).

Awesome.
In a world now full of a variety of monopoly money for different reigions, we'll see rising a much smaller world full of different cryptocurrencies for different applications with trade between them.

either btc or one that has not been invented yet. certainly not one of the copy coins. though a copy-coin may play a complementary role to bitcoin.

Yacoin, soon it will be nearly impossible to mine btc, ltc. for the average joe, and more average joes are coming on to cryptocrrencies everyday. I think Yacoin may be a hit and later becomethe predecessor for a more secure and truely ASIC and GPU proof coin.

In my opinion only Bitcoin will be widely know and accepted by merchants. The other alt coins are just crap - they lack development and/or hash amount to make them secure.
