I was just wondering how does bitcoin find its first peers ?

If its some kind of "tracker" then wouldn't that be a place to shut down enough of the network to make "normal" people lose faith in bitcoin ?

I know that if I debt card stopped working for more then a day I would be at the bank yelling, but without someplace to go people would lose faith quickly

I have read somewhere that they are fetched from irc chat , also you can specify adrresses on the conf file.
Btw you can make more than one tracker so taking down every tracker is not easy.
