Hey everybody,
I'll keep this short. I want BRAND new one (as in not opened!) of these:

I am comfortable with the encryption and don't want to pay more, even though I know Kingston makes superior usb drives.

I know people peddle USB drives like crazy (although thats kind of sketchy)-but anyway, I know people can get these at a discount, on sale, etc. I won't say what I'm willing to pay, please just PM me your best offer!

$45 for an 8 gig? They're $33 Amazon Prime. I'd also be ok with a 2gig. Its mostly data files I'd be storing.

Why not just use a bog standard USB stick and create an encrypted container: TrueCrypt works with Windows/Mac/Linux & Luks with Mac/Linux.

and with TrueCrypt, you always have plausable deniability when you hide your truecrypt container inside another file, vs. an obviously locked and password protected USB.

What about a hidden volume inside a TrueCrypt volume INSIDE an obviously locked and password protected USB?  Now we're getting into some MC Escher levels of plausibly deniable encryption.

That really does look quite badass.  Seems a little excessive for most of my purposes, and a little "heaty" for dragging through airports.  I've had guns pointed at me in airports enough times without actually doing anything transgressive - I'm quite certain that I'm going to be politely ordered to reveal encryption keys if I haul one of those through UK airports enough times.  (in my personal opinions) Security through obscurity and plausible deniability are definitely better for individual security / encryption purposes, particularly given the ongoing evolutions of key disclosure laws.

Regarding the the actual DataTraveler device referenced by the OP - I'm out at this point.  I'm not protecting anything that vital, I can use TrueCrypt or BestCrypt on any normal thumbdrive for the moment.

That does look badass...but it has the same (256 bit) level of encryption that this one does...and it costs more (per size). The Kingston is waterproof, too. I admit, this one does have the Kingston in terms of aesthetics, though.

This is true I like the fact that you only get 10 tries to enter the password and that it has an onboard version of firefox thats what sold it to me. Never leave home without it!
