So this news is true? I received this email in my spam folder and hence thought the link was a phishing link which is why I did not click it. Since they accept ETH, it means all the coins too will be supported like on myetherwallet? Checked the blog but couldn't find this info.

Yes that is true:

Im not sure of this. But anyhow, users must not used any web wallet as receiving address for ETH contract tokens.

Well, that was unexpected, since Blockchain supported only the traditional Bitcoin and not popular altcoins (e.g. Litecoin) even Bitcoin Cash were not supported after fork.

I have read some comments about bad points of MyEtherWallet. What then would the best practice to have receiving address for ether token? Really.

You don't have to worry when using myetherwallet but don't forget to check the URL and SSL information on address bar before uploading Keystore file or entering private key.

Don't save your private key or mnemonic phrase anywhere online or in your computer, just save keystore file encrypted with very strong and unique password.

Litecoin doesn't offer anything more than bitcoin but ethereum is completely new tech with lots of future potential. They might never add bitcoincash.

What like bad points? Can you point it out and let's discussed it.

There are some safety measures to make sure our MEW addresses won't be compromised. Still it's way better to used MEW as priority when receiving ether tokens. Surely in the future there will be other platforms who will have that feature but for now, it's wise to stick with MEW.

It can't be that unexpected since Blockchain has to deal with share holders that are purely out to realize growth, which is exactly why they will continue to add more altcoins in the coming years.

Other popular online wallet services support various digital assets, so from a business perspective, the move from blockchain.info to support Ether is very lucrative and will likely gain them thousands of new users quickly.

Crypto in general has experienced an explosive level of growth, and the interest and attention has also flown big time into the altcoin industry ~ from there we can expect blockchain.info to support more altcoins in the future.

BSV is not the real Bcash. Bcash is the real Bcash.

Basicly, it allows only to receive and send Ether. Yes, Ethereum is a popular coin and has potential but Blockchain does not offer the features as MyEtherWallet has.

Am agree with your post but Blockchain.info is with this feature on the same level with Coinbase. Allowing to receive and send tokens as MyEtherWallet offers, is missing that would be a great option.

There should be a statement too if they are able to support token's or other altcoins.

Those coins that are supported by ETH.

They should start to add BCH as I think they are now trying to focus now with only famous coins.

Not a big news at all i was a fan of blockchain when they allowed me to send multiple payments but as fees increased they wanted to make more money and removed the most important feature. As of eth it's no big news they won't allow us to send to contracts and storing online is still a risk it's better if we use myetherwallet it is easy viewer and it is more secure than other eth wallets.

I hated when they removed their legacy wallet option. They removed the ability to do custom spends (choosing your inputs), at least from imported private keys, making privacy much worse for their customers. I stopped using their wallet entirely after this.

They don't provide full Ethereum functionality here so indeed, MyEtherWallet is a better option. I wouldn't consider using Blockchain.info "storing online" since your private keys aren't exposed to them. Sending transactions can be significantly less safe than with desktop wallets, though, because of the risk of MITM attacks. The key security issue with Blockchain.info is that you don't control the software, even if you control the private keys.

I'm guessing they didn't support it for the same reason that Coinbase didn't. The fork was rushed and they didn't have time to roll out a well-tested update in time for the fork. More than that, they have never supported altcoins, so it wasn't expected that they would necessarily support Bitcoin Cash. Just extract your private keys; it's easy enough. I'm pretty sure BTC.com has a wallet for Bitcoin Cash.

I imagine that the ETH update has been in the works for several months now.

I think they will announce something on this regards soon because as they don't have access to any bitcoin or private key information of their users they can't claim those BCC for their benefit. So there is no point for them to not allow their users to claim those free BCC they deserves.

You are right its a little bit surprising for Blockchain to addup Ether coin into their service knowing that Bitcoin would be the pure coin that they do support and now they do make such changes which is really a shocking thing for me considering that there are already lots of Ether wallets out there but well its better to have many options on choosing a wallet which do support ETH. Having many options is always better.

It's really not surprising. This is the direction we have been heading for a while. Bitfinex, Bitstamp and Coinbase (i.e. the major exchanges) all added Ethereum despite being very Bitcoin-oriented at the time, and despite the risks of diluting their respective market shares. They realized that the ETH market was simply too big to ignore.

The same goes for Blockchain.info. A few years ago, it made sense for a company in their position to focus solely on Bitcoin. With the altcoin and digital token markets continuing to flourish, they can make a relatively minimal investment (vs. their company size and operating funds) to get a big piece of market share during this early adoption phase.

Blockchain.info has ALSO raised their BTC sending fees like CRAZY... here's the message I got when trying to send my balance today (about .5 btc)

This is an oversized bitcoin transaction!

Your wallet needs to consolidate many smaller payments you've received in the past. This requires a relatively high fee in order to be confirmed quickly.

Actually getting curious after reading the news. I think Ethereum deserved it, as one of the most growing second digital asset after Bitcoin. The market cap gradually increasing. It gives more important, waiting that moment.

Blockchain wallet adds ether as a new currency and a build-in exchange BTC to ETH

https://blog.blockchain.com/2017/08/17/blockchain-wallet-adds-ether/

Wow you would think thy would have added bitcoin cash first since isn't blockchain.info's main shareholder roger ver? Or maybe even remove the original bitcoin and swap to Bcash right.  Anyway dont keep any large amount of coins on there due to stories of the past of people getting hacked.
